Fans have been waiting for the Spider-Man: No Way Home trailer to drop for some time, not just to see how the world reacts to Tom Holland's Peter Parker being outed by Mysterio, but also to witness how the movie connects to the Multiverse. And they got their wish when Alfred Molina's Doctor Octopus returned at the end of the first look. But one Easter egg in the trailer that's flown under the radar seems to validate months of theories, though it could be a fake-out that points to another superhero swinging into the film.

The catalyst for this speculation arrives at the 0:39 mark of the trailer, where a protestor holding up a "devil in disguise" poster is seen as Pete's being taken in. And while many fans were quick to believe it was a reference to Mephisto, it may not be so simple.

Mephisto playing a role in No Way Home would make sense because Doctor Strange makes a reckless deal with Peter, tampering with magic to erase the world's memory. It's similar to what the demon did in One More Day, erasing Pete's marriage to MJ to save Aunt May from dying. Using Mephisto would ensure none of his loved ones got hurt again for knowing his secret and is a clever way of paying off all the theories from WandaVision and Loki,

But while this poster could tease Mephisto plays a role in the film, breaking rules and adding to the chaos of a fractured reality, it could also tease Daredevil. Charlie Cox has been rumored to appear for some time, which has pleased many fans, as the third season of Daredevil ended on a cliffhanger. Cox's Matt Murdock is one of the crowning points of the canceled Netflix shows, with folks hoping someday the MCU can revive his journey, even on TV with Disney+. Well, now it's possible Matt is going to be helping Peter, disguised as a civilian.

Some eagle-eyed fans have even taken screenshots suggesting, when Pete's being interrogated, the unseen person in the white shirt is Cox's character helping out as his attorney, beginning to form their bond from the source material. Matt has been Pete's legal representation in the comics on a few occasions, while Pete's also donned the Daredevil costume to help his friend more than once.

Even in the recent arc where Kingpin became mayor, Spider-Man tried to help Daredevil and ensure he didn't descend into darkness, so they've had a kinship for years, even outside of the professional realm. And this clever sign in the No Way Home trailer seems to affirm that partnership's being brought to the big screen. And seeing as Peter doesn't have Iron Man to lean on anymore, it creates an organic avenue for Matt to become his new partner in stopping crime.

To see if Daredevil makes his MCU debut in Peter Parker's next solo outing, Spider-Man: No Way Home swings into theaters on Dec. 17.
