WARNING: The following contains spoilers for Spider-Woman #13 by Karla Pacheco, Pere Perez, Frank D'Armata, and VC's Travis Lanham, on sale now.

Jessica Drew has never had an easy life, with superpowered threats and nefarious conspiracies threatening her at almost every turn. To make matters worse, it is Jessica's own family that has most often been a thorn in her side, at least recently. However, the youngest member of her family, her son Gerry, has proved to be an invaluable if unexpected asset, providing Jessica with help in the midst of battle by way of an unlikely but very effective weapon.

What would otherwise have been a normal day at home for Jessica Drew quickly spun out of control thanks to the violent intrusion of the villain Fireball. This D-List menace isn't the worst person who could have shown up in Jessica's kitchen unexpectedly, but that doesn't mean she can afford to go easy on the villain. Drew grabs the first thing available to ward off the mercenary...which in this case happens to be her son's baby stroller. However unconventional the weapon, Jessica proves to be efficient at wielding it, painfully bashing her foe before hurling the stroller at her for a follow-up, followed by her son's toy stove.

Fireball dodges the playset thrown her way and is able to put some space between herself and Spider-Woman, although that doesn't do her much good when Drew's superpowered toddler decides to get in on the action. He hits her with a shocking blast of energy that convinces the mercenary that it is time to beat a hasty exit.

Jessica pursues the thief as her sister arrives to watch her son, getting into her Spider-Woman outfit along the way. Jessica catches up to the villain, but is unable to stop Fireball from handing off the looted data to another villain. This leads Jessica on another chase through the city that leads her to face two more superpowered mercenaries looking for what they thought was an easy payday.

Spider-Woman's willingness to do whatever it takes to keep herself and her family safe isn't surprising, even if her impromptu methods of doing so sometimes are. Unfortunately, most of her extended family members have repeatedly proven to be problematic when it comes to doing right by her.

At the same time, as horrible as her family has been to her, they are the very reason she is a hero. Her father literally granted her the powers she uses in the service of the Avengers, although it came at the price of experimenting on her as a child. Luckily, she still has her son and his gradually developing powers to help her when the time comes, as well as a number of baby items at her disposal.
