Ever since the first trailer was released, Spider-Man fans have been excited for Into the Spider-Verse, and the more we learn about and see from the upcoming film, the more the hype builds. However, we still don't quite know everything about the plot and characters in the film, definitely a smart choice by Sony, but it has left us too excited to wait for the release date. Though we don't know everything about Into the Spider-Verse, we can speculate a few things, like the inclusion of certain characters or voice-actors, and we can hope that some fan-favorite elements and characters also make it into the film.

Since the film's title and premise are somewhat based off the Spider-Verse comics, we have something to go off of in terms of what to expect. We obviously know that various Spider-powered heroes are going to come together to stop all of their universes from being destroyed, but just how many Spider-characters will be featured? More than we've seen so far? As many as the comics? More than the comics? There's also the matter of who the true villain is; so far we've seen Green Goblin, Kingpin, Prowler, Scorpion and Tombstone, and who knows how many others will show up. We've only seen a fraction of what's going to unfold in Into the Spider-Verse, but we know a bit of what's going to happen, we know a few rumors, and we have a few things we hope to see in what is sure to be a groundbreaking film.

15 KNOW: DIFFERENT ANIMATION STYLES

One of the things the latest trailer for Spider-Verse has revealed is that, for the most part, characters from different universes will be animated differently. It can bee seen in the above screenshot; Gwen, Miles and Peter are animated in a mix of 2D and 3D with a splash of comic book style thrown in, while Spider-Ham is animated in a 2D Looney Tunes style, Peni Parker has a comedic anime aesthetic and Spider-Man Noir is animated completely in dot-pattern black and white.

This choice to animate some of the characters in different style, a bold one that most likely takes a TON of time and work, is just one of the many reasons this film is going to be unlike anything that came before it.

14 RUMOR: MOVIE SPIDER-CAMEOS

This one is sort of a half-rumor, half-fan-desire, but we're gonna count it anyway, since there has been some buzz about the possibility of Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield making cameos in Into the Spider-Verse. How cool would it be to see the Sam Raimi film suit and the suit from Amazing Spider-Man 2 make appearances?

Maybe the cameos might just be their suits appearing, there seems to be a hall of Spider-suits in the background of some trailers, or maybe Maguire and Garfield would actually voice their versions of Spider-Man in a scene where every Spider-Man in the Spider-verse shows up.

13 HOPE: SPIDER-GWEN'S BACKSTORY

The second Gwen Stacy showed up in the full trailer for Into The Spider-Verse, fans were excited to see the alternate-universe version of the character in fully animated action. As more footage and screenshots were released for the film, we saw something interesting about Spider-Gwen: her hair.

Specifically, we noticed that Gwen has two different haircuts in the film, implying we might get to see some of her backstory, something we hope will play out, as her origin as Spider-Woman is one of the coolest takes on the Spider-Man lore and deserves to be a significant part of the film.

12 KNOW: GANKE LEE

A big part of Mile Morales' story is his best friend, Ganke Lee, Miles' enthusiastic best friend who knows his secret and helps him cover up his adventures as Spider-Man. In the latest trailer for Into the Spider-Verse, Ganke was revealed to be part of the film, and his inclusion has us very excited for the movie.

The interaction between Miles and Ganke has always been great, so add in multiple Spider-heroes on top of Miles' secret, and we've got ourselves a powdered keg of humor and intrigue. Though he might just be a side-character, we're definitely excited to see what part Ganke plays in the film.

11 RUMOR: VENOM

This one might not have a lot of truth to it, possibly because Sony already has a newly-launched Venom franchise, but there has been some buzz around the character making an appearance in the film. This would be an interesting character to include in the film, especially if he's a good guy, be it as Flash Thompson or a version of Eddie Brock that wasn't evil.

We could definitely see how Venom could fit in Into the Spider-Verse, so there may be something to this rumor. The rumor has also suggested that Danny Trejo would voice the character, as he previously played Venom in the Phineas and Ferb Marvel crossover special.

10 HOPE: CAMEOS GALORE

Thus far, it appears as though the Spider-heroes we've seen in the trailer will be the core cast of Into The Spider-Verse. However, since the film is based on a comic-event featuring practically every Spider-Man to ever exist, we definitely hope to see more than what the trailer has shown us.

Focusing on a core cast is a smart idea, so we don't think Into the Spider-Verse should give every Spider-person time in the spotlight, but we're hoping there are tons and tons of cameos from some of our favorite alternate-universe Spider-Men. Even better would be if these cameos were voiced by previous Spider-Man actors and voice actors.

9 KNOW: LIEV SCHREIBER AS KINGPIN

Kingpin's Collider explodes in Into the Spider-Verse.

Some early footage for Into the Spider-Verse showed a massive, square-shaped man to be involved in some kind of explosion. As more footage was released, we realized that this villain was the Kingpin, who seems to be at the center of the technology used to connect alternate universes.

We also recently learned that Liev Schreiber would be voicing the Kingpin, an unexpected choice that we're excited to see play out, especially since the actor knows how to bring an interesting amount of intensity to his roles, which works perfectly for Wilson Fisk. We're also excited to see what role the Kingpin plays in the film, especially with how involved he is with the alternate universe technology.

8 RUMOR: MARK HAMILL AS GREEN GOBLIN

Green Goblin is one of Spider-Man's fiercest foes, and in Into the Spider-Verse, he seems to be even fiercer, appearing to be a massive, hulking giant that towers over Spider-Man, both Mile and Peter. This may be different from the versions of the character we're used to, but we're all for this beastly goblin, especially if the rumors about his voice actor are true.

There are some rumors stating that none other than Mark Hamill will be providing the voice for this version of the Green Goblin. This would be a perfect fit, both because Hamill is a fantastic voice actor (especially when it comes to villains), and because he voiced the Hobgoblin in the '90s cartoon, making the possible role a full circle for Hamill.

7 HOPE: ALTERNATE UNIVERSE VILLAINS TEAM-UP

One of the best parts about alternate universe/dimension crossovers are the team-ups, both on the part of the heroes and the villains. We already know the former will happen, all the Spider-people will have to work together, but what about the villains?

The above screenshot tells us that there is definitely going to be team-ups of different Spider-Man villains, but will there be team-ups between different versions of Green Goblin? Or maybe the Kingpin? Maybe every version of the sinister six will team up to take out all the Spider-heroes in the multiverse. Who knows, but we hope to see some alternate universe villain team-ups in the film.

6 KNOW: R.I.P. PETER PARKER

The fact that Miles Morales is the Spider-Man of his universe means that the previous Spider-Man, Peter Parker, is no longer around. While the Miles of Into The Spider-Verse might not have the same exact origin as the ultimate comics Miles, there is one piece of evidence that tells us the film will explore the demise of Peter Parker.

The two "P's" on the gravestone pictured above imply that the grave belongs to Peter Parker, or rather, the Peter Parker of Miles' universe. Of course, nothing is 100% confirmed, but we are definitely interested and excited to see how all of the various Spider-peoples' origins and backgrounds play out in the larger plot of the film.

5 RUMOR: SPIDER-MAN 2099

Spider-Man 2099 header

Despite being one of the more well-known alternate versions of Spider-Man, Miguel O'Hara has not yet been announced to show up in Into the Spider-Verse... or has he? There are some rumors stating that the character will appear, though we're not sure if that means as a small cameo or as a major part of the story.

Either way, we hope this rumor is true, since the character definitely has his fair share of fans, and it would be a comic-book-crime to overlook him as part of the Spider-verse! Perhaps these rumors are just rumors, but it would be crazy not to include Spider-Man 2099 in a film about alternate Spider-heroes!

4 HOPE: SILK

Silk issue #4 cover

Like Miguel O'Hara, Silk is a fan favorite character that has yet to be slated for Into the Spider-Verse, but we sure hope to see her in the film. How to work the character in is a bit difficult, granted, since she was bitten by the same spider as Peter Parker was, but that doesn't mean they can't modify her story and include her.

Silk would be a great addition to the cast, since she could add yet another art style option to the beautiful array of animation that the film features, and there is a lot of potential for a cool, movie-specific costume redesign and some awesome scenes involving Silk's unique webbing powers.

3 KNOW: PENI PARKER

Peni Parker surrounded by an anime flourish in Into the Spider-Verse

With the latest trailer came the introduction of Peni Parker, or, at least a version of the character. While some fans might be split on this interpretation of the spider-mech pilot, it's still cool to that she's going to be a big part of the film.

Some people were upset with the fact that there was no real anime aesthetic on the character, even though that is where the character got her influence from. Thee character is going to be rendered in more of an anime-parodying style, which isn't terrible, but not quite the style that fans were hoping for. But, that aside, we can still say we're excited to meet this version of Peni in Into the Spider-Verse.

2 RUMOR: MORLUN

morlun

The Spider-Verse comic crossover revolved around Morlun and his family hunting down all Spider-powered heroes, otherwise known as "Spider-Totems" and devouring their energy. While this is perhaps a little too extreme to put in Into the Spider-Verse, there are still rumors that Morlun will appear in the film.

If this is the case, we hope that the character plays a smaller part than he does in the comics. Maybe he teams up with other Spider-Man villains for the sake of feasting on a few of the Spider-heroes' energies. However they handle the character, if these rumors are true, we hope he isn't at the center of the conflict, as the film is shaping up to be a strong story by doing its own thing.

1 HOPE: SPIDER-PUNK

PS4 Spider-Man Spider-Punk

Last but not least, we'd love it if Sony included the Spider-Man of Earth-138 in Into the Spider-Verse. Otherwise known as "Spider-Punk," this version of Spider-Man is punk-rock in both aesthetic and ideology, using his powers to fight against an oppression government under the reign of President Osborn with the help of an army of punk-rock rebels.

The film already has a punk-rock-styled character in the form of Spider-Woman/Gwen Stacy, but it there's nothing in the rules that says they can't have two rock and roll Spider-people! Plus, with how cool his background and costume are, we'd love to see how the film might stylize Spider-Punk's awesome design.
