2018's groundbreaking film Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse helped to ring in Marvel's multiverse and popularize several of Peter Parker's interdimensional counterparts, including Earth-8311's Peter Porker. Spider-Ham lives in a universe populated entirely by anthropomorphized animals, many of whom closely resemble heroes and villains from other universes. While Spider-Ham is the most popular character from this bizarre realm, he is not the only heroic or villainous parody of Marvel characters.

Given his frightening and violent nature, it might be difficult to imagine a cartoon animal version of Venom. However, there is a large, Austrian Hog named Pork Grind who acts as the Venom of the Animal-verse. It is unclear whether or not Pork Grind is infected with a symbiote, but his cartoonish fighting style and amorphous anatomy appear to give him the same powers as Eddie Brock, and makes him one of Spider-Ham's most dangerous opponents.

pork grind threatens milk, cookies and spider-ham

Pork Grind first appears in a story called "Pork for Dinner, Milk and Cookies for dessert" (by Barry Dutter, John Costanza, George Wildman and Dan Kratochvil) that appeared in 1992's What The -?! #20. The story begins when the heroes Milk and Cookies discover that their humor-verse is merging with the animal universe as a result of Negative Forbush Man's use of the "Infinity Wart." Spider-Ham tries to help the heroes get their bearings, but the three are interrupted by the arrival of the menacing Pork Grind, who introduces himself and explains that he has traveled "all the way from Austria" to destroy Spider-Ham.

Poor Milk and Cookies are no match for Pork Grind's cartoon fighting style. Luckily, Peter Porker steps in to protect them. But even the Amazing Spider-Ham appears to have met his match. The Austrian hog uses a gigantic mallet to squash poor Peter like a pancake before rolling him into a ball and throwing him away. But, the pigheaded hero refuses to give up. Spider-Ham utilizes the secret weapon of all cartoon heroes: Spinach. With the power of vegetables, Peter is able to give Pork Grind a taste of his own medicine and send the pig Venom back to Austria.

Since his initial appearance and defeat, Pork Grind has kept a low profile throughout the entire Marvel Multiverse. He briefly reappeared in the story "Eight Days a Week" (by Jason Latour, Annapaola Martello, James Harren, Michael Walsh, Javier Rodriguez and Veronica Fish) that appeared in 2016's Spider-Gwen Annual. Pork Grind was working as a member of the Swinester Six, whose plans were foiled by Gwen Stacey. The venomous pig also participated in Earth 8311's Aporkalypse battle in 2020's Spider-Ham #3 (by Zeb Wells, Will Robson and Erick Arciniega), but he played a minimal role and hasn't been seen since.

Pork Grind has yet to make much of a name for himself in the Marvel Universe, but he is an imposing character with the potential to be as formidable as his human/symbiote analog Venom, and the second Into the Spider-Verse movie may provide an opportunity for Pork and some of Spider-Ham's animal compatriots to make an impression on a larger audience. Regardless, Pork Grind is definitely the scariest pig in comics.
