The following contains spoilers for Spider-Man #2, on sale now from Marvel.

Marvel's Spider-Man #2 introduces readers to a "beta" version of Earth-616,

Spider-Man #2 comes from writer Dan Slott, artist Mark Bagley, inker John Dell, colorist Edgar Delgado and letterer VC's Joe Caramagna. In Spider-Man #1, Peter Parker/Spider-Man suddenly found himself working with a number of heroes from across the Spider-Verse -- including Miles Morales, Jessica Drew and Silk -- after Sathra launched an unexpected attack on Earth-616. The heroes quickly learned, however, they're own friends were being possessed by Sathra's forces only after Spider-Man Noir not only killed Jessica/Spider-Woman, but erased her from the Web of Life. Morlun also showed up and, much to everyone's surprise, offered his services to help Spider-Man save the Spider-Verse from collapsing.

The Spider-Verse Introduces a New, 'Beta' Reality to Marvel's Multiverse

As more possessed Spider-Verse heroes begin emerging in Spider-Man #2, the group is saved by Araña and the new Spider-UK, who arrives through a magical web created by "mystic spider-totem energy." Peter, Miles, Morlun and Silk follow them through the web and are transported to another spaced called Earth-616 Beta. The location was previously seen being used as a hideout by Madame Web, Spider-UK and Araña Spider-Man #1, but Spider-Man #2 offers better insight into the nature of the area.

Miles quickly notes that, while he's traveled to other dimensions, Earth-616 Beta feels "dimension-less." Spider-UK explains this is because they technically haven't traveled dimensions. "This place is an anomaly," she says. "Our best guess is that Earth-616 Beta was a test run. A 'trial universe' to work out all the kinks. It's not part of the Great Web. It's off to the side, as far as we can tell...Shathra can't see it. She has no idea where they are!"

As they continue walking through Earth-616 Beta, Spider-UK points out some noticeable differences between this world and Peter's home. "In your 616, this church is called 'Our Lady of Saints,'" she says, which is also the location where Eddie Brock first bonded with the Venom symbiote. "Here, they don't have a name for it yet. It hasn't been used in any 'stories' yet. So no one goes inside. It's the perfect safe zone."

Spider-Man #2 features cover art by Bagley and Sánchez and variant cover art by Bagley, Delgado, Humberto Ramos, Francesco Mobili, Romulo Fajardo Jr. and Ivan Sharvin. The issue is on sale now from Marvel.
