WARNING: The following contains spoilers for Amazing Spider-Man #65 by Nick Spencer, Federico Vicentini, Federico Sabbatini, Alex Sinclair & VC's Joe Caramagna, on sale now.

Spider-Man has become an Internet celebrity, and that means bad things concerning his work as a superhero, namely that villains now have  a way to keep track of where he is at all times.

Threats & Menaces offered to supply Spider-Man with a fancy new suit and a nice paycheck if he would stream his superhero battles. Some might see it as selling out, but Spider-Man had a couple of reasons for doing it, in addition to paying his rent. The more bad guys he fought, and the bigger his online fanbase became, the worse Wilson Fisk looked, since he clearly wasn’t lowering crime in the city. Even some of Fisk’s close companions couldn’t escape justice when their crimes played out live on the Internet for everyone to see.

With that said, there was one big problem with what Threats & Menaces offered Spider-Man. It didn’t stop with the streaming -- it now includes a new app.

J Jonah Jameson and Spider-Man

Spider-Man got a call from Robbie Robertson and learned that he and his uneasy ally Tombstone had found where Madame Masque was holding his son Randy and Tombstone’s daughter Janice. Robbie and Tombstone were on their way and Robbie hoped Spider-Man would be their backup in the fight. The problem is, Spider-Man was a long way away. J. Jonah Jameson said that this would be “better than Christmas” for ratings when Spider-Man saved the Daily Bugle’s Robbie Robertson live on Threats & Menaces' website. However, Spider-Man got there late and Madame Masque already knew he would.

The new app that Threats & Menaces created was a “Find Your Super Hero” app, and it used the location reporting in Spider-Man’s costume to show where he is at all times. When Robbie mentioned Spider-Man was coming, Madame Masque pulled out her phone and revealed that she knew where Spider-Man was thanks to the app. Luckily for Robbie, Tombstone called in help as well, and the Syndicate showed up to save their fellow team member Beetle. This app showed how dangerous it is getting for Spider-Man to be working for Threats & Menaces.

Madame Masque

With the Internet capabilities in Spider-Man’s costume, that means there is also a location device to broadcast his exploits to his fans. With the location device, Threats & Menaces could make the new app, giving Spider-Man’s new online fans a chance to follow him, even when they weren’t watching him. If a villain wants to find and attack him, they can use the app. If a villain wants to break into a bank and rob it, they can check to see where Spider-Man is to make their job easier.

In this issue, Madame Masque knew she had time to kill Tombstone and Robbie Robertson because she saw where Spider-Man was with the app. And with Chameleon as the brains behind Threats & Menaces, all these new gadgets could prove deadly to Spider-Man before all is said and done.
