Spider-Man, Wolverine, Storm, Iron Man and more are all at war with one another in an upcoming Marvel saga releasing in the summer of 2023, Contest of Chaos.
Marvel released new promotional artwork created by Bryan Hitch for Contest of Chaos, a new saga launching in 2023. The image sees a number of iconic Marvel heroes -- including Deadpool, Moon Knight, Captain America, Captain Marvel and many more -- fighting one another in a Civil War manner for reasons that remain to be seen. "Witness the corruption of absolute chaos in CONTEST OF CHAOS, arriving in Summer 2023!" the publisher teased while promising more details will follow at a later date. The creative team attached to Contest of Chaos has not yet been announced.
Where Does Contest of Chaos Fall With Marvel's 2023 Publishing Plans?
While Contest of Chaos doesn't have an exact release date at the time of this article's publication, Marvel has already announced two other major events coming in the summer of 2023. Summer of Symbiotes was announced at New York Comic-Con in 2022 featuring Venom, Carnage, Red Goblin and a number of other recognizable characters. The publisher has also teased a "Death of Venomverse" (featuring promotional artwork by Gerardo Sandoval) development coming in June 2023, with more details coming at a later date.
As for the X-Men, the summer of 2023 will also introduce a "Fall of X" event, which begins with the third annual Hellfire Gala and could bring about the end of mutantkind's Krakoan age. "The X-Men hoped Krakoa would last forever. Time to find out if they were right," the publisher previously teased. "Fall of X" comes after Sins of Sinister, an event that launched in January 2023 that sees Mister Sinister accidentally become trapped in a reality he manipulated.
Other upcoming Marvel crossovers launching around the same time as Contest of Chaos include a Steve Rogers and Sam Wilson Captain America: Cold War event that begins in the spring of 2023, a bloody Miles Morales and Carnage battle that begins on May 3, 2023, with Carnage Reigns Alpha and a Ghost Rider and Wolverine Weapons of Vengeance team-up coming in August. Contest of Chaos additionally begins around the same time that Jed MacKay and C.F. Villa's new ongoing Avengers series launches, though whether there's any connection between Contest of Chaos and Avengers also remains to be seen.
