Spider-Man is one of the greatest heroes in the Marvel Universe and a big reason for that is his villains. Spider-Man battles some of the most dangerous villains in New York City, with them also being some of Marvel's most interesting foes. From the gimmicky villains of the Silver Age to the more realistic and brutal ones of modern times, Spider-Man's foes represent difficult challenges for the hero.

An interesting facet of Spider-Man's enemies is that while many of them are just criminals, some of them have underlying psychological issues that motivate their crimes. While some of Spider-Man's foes belong in the supervillain prison the Raft, others are more suited for Ravencroft asylum, where they can get help.

10 Belongs In Ravencroft: Doctor Octopus's Inferiority Complex Could Be Improved In Therapy

Doctor Octopus

Doctor Octopus is one of Spider-Man's oldest foes. He's also proved to be one of the Wall-Crawler's greatest enemies, even becoming a superior Spider-Man. However, the accident that bonded the arms to Ock messed with his mind and even before that, he had some heavy inferiority issues. These two factors combined make him someone who needs help.

Ravencroft could show Ock how to deal with the problems of his arms, which sometimes have a personality of their own, and his inferiority complex. He's proven to be a great hero in the past and could be again if he gets the right help.

9 Belongs In The Raft: Kingpin's Crimes And Reach Demands A Tough Prison To Hold Him

The Kingpin

Kingpin has long been one of the most dangerous criminals in New York City, running a criminal empire that spans the world. He has no qualms with doing whatever terrible things he needs to and has been a thorn in the side of many heroes. Unlike others of Spider-Man's foes, Kingpin has no real excuses for his actions other than a lust for power and should be put in the Raft.

Kingpin has a wide reach and any time he's been put in a regular prison, he's easily broken free. The Raft is a tougher nut to crack and it's exactly the kind of place where a criminal of Kingpin's caliber belongs, a tough prison that can hold him unlike any other.

8 Belongs In Ravencroft: The Lizard Needs To Learn To Deal With His Disability In A Healthy Way

Curt Connors as LIzard

Dr. Curt Connors had a laudable goal. He wanted to meld human and reptile DNA, so that humans could grow back severed limbs. He experimented on himself, trying to grow back his severed arm but this led to him becoming the Lizard, one of Spider-Man's most terrifying villains. He never learned to deal well with his disability, seeing it as a problem to be solved, something that therapy would help him with.

Perhaps if Connors dealt with his disability better, he wouldn't have tried to rush things and succeeded in his goal. A stay in Ravencroft could teach him to deal with this and allow him to accept himself, perhaps even becoming a bigger help to the world.

7 Belongs In The Raft: Rhino Is A Dangerous Criminal With No Excuses For His Actions

Marvel Rhino Extreme Transformed Rampage

Rhino is one of Spider-Man's strongest foes, even able to go toe to toe with the Hulk and make a good accounting for himself. This is extremely impressive and it means that the kind of destruction that Rhino can cause is incalculable. Unlike a lot of Spider-Man's foes, he doesn't have any psychological reason for his crimes and needs to be put somewhere that can hold him.

The Raft is made for supercriminals like the Rhino. The power inhibitors will keep him from escaping or brutalizing others. Rhino is a dangerous person and needs to be put somewhere he can't hurt others.

6 Belong In Ravencroft: The Jackal Has Been Insane For Years

Miles Warren as The Jackal in a lightning storm in Marvel Comics

The Jackal is partly responsible for one of the darkest chapters in Spider-Man history: the Clone Saga. The creator of the Spider-Clone, he was also obsessed with his former student Gwen Stacy, who he brought back to life through cloning. He'd disappear for years until returning during the Clone Saga, where he was portrayed as an almost Joker-like character.

Jackal's years of experimentation on himself and others have driven him wild and his actions prove that. Because of this, he needs to be put in Ravencroft where he can be taught to deal with his issues in a more constructive way.

5 Belongs In The Raft: Kraven The Hunter Just Wants To Prove He's Better Than Spider-Man

kraven-the-hunter-header

Kraven the Hunter honed himself into one of the greatest hunters in the world, hunting and killing some of the most dangerous beasts on the planet. He eventually decided that Spider-Man was the ultimate prey and has went after him for years, trying to take down the hero to prove that he was better than him. There's really no psychological foibles involved with Kraven's reasoning, he just likes what he does.

Kraven isn't exactly the worst criminal in the world but he's still a criminal, and a rather willing one at that. Putting a dangerous man like him in the Raft would be a fitting punishment, especially when one realizes he was literally hunting a teenager for years.

4 Belongs In Ravencroft: Shriek's Mental Issues Have Allowed Others To Use Her For Years

Shriek and Carnage looming over

Shriek is Carnage's girlfriend and much like him, she loves to wreak havoc and kill others. Shriek's sonic powers make her very dangerous and it doesn't help that she's unstable. This has allowed Carnage to use her in his own twisted serial killing sprees and it's something she needs help with.

Putting Shriek in a prison in the Raft wouldn't do her any good at all. In Ravencroft, she can get the help she needs.

3 Belongs In The Raft: The Vulture's Life Of Crime Has Been Motivated By Greed And Revenge

Spider-man and The Vulture Fight in the air

The Vulture began his time as a criminal trying to make up for the loss of his small business because of the extortion of his partner. From there, he would clash with Spider-Man and continue his criminal ways. He joined the Sinister Six in order to get revenge against the Wall-Crawler and his actions prove that he needs to be put in prison.

The Raft is a tough place but Vulture is a more dangerous criminal than his age would lead one to believe. Putting him in the Raft is a fitting punishment for a man who committed crimes for no other reasons other than greed and revenge.

2 Belongs In Ravencroft: Green Goblin's Existing Struggles Were Exacerbated By The Goblin Formula

Green Goblin

Green Goblin and Spider-Man's rivalry is legendary. Norman Osborn built an industrial empire and even before his time as a criminal was a ruthless man. The Goblin formula made this worse, pushing him past the limit. Even when he was ostensibly better, during his time with the Thunderbolts and the Dark Avengers, his Green Goblin persona acted almost like an alternate personality.

Green Goblin has done a lot of bad things over the years but his struggles are intense and putting him in prison would only make things worse. A lengthy stay in Ravencroft could help him learn to deal with things in a more healthy way.

1 Belongs In The Raft: Carnage Is A Monstrous Serial Killer

carnage under a red sun

When Carnage first appeared, he was sharing a prison cell with Venom. Cletus Kasady was a serial killer and gaining a symbiote made that all the worse. He'd become one of Spider-Man's most terrifying foes, going on rampages and trying to kill as many people as possible. There's only one thing Carnage enjoys and that's killing.

A place like Ravencroft can't help someone like Carnage. He's killed way too many people and needs to be held in a place like the Raft. The Raft can deal with him and hold him better than anywhere else.
