A while ago, a clip surfaced seemingly showing actor Andrew Garfield, once again in costume as Spider-Man, on the set of Marvel Studios' Spider-Man: No Way Home. It seemingly confirmed that he would be reprising his role as Peter Parker from Sony's Amazing Spider-Man films, at least until Garfield claimed it was fake.

The VFX artists at Corridor Crew recently examined the clip, as well as a video that circulated afterwards, claiming to be the reveal of how the footage was actually a deepfake. Both Garfield's claims and the "deepfake" clip were seemingly debunked by the Corridor Crew. Niko and Sam suggested, while faking the leaked BTS clip isn't impossible, there were too many details that AI would simply be far too unlikely to pick up on and include. There were too many consistencies that suggested it really was Garfield in the clip.

Garfield has denied his involvement in Spider-Man: No Way Home multiple times, in several different interviews. He previously explained, "I understand why people are freaking out about the concept of that because I'm a fan as well... You can't help but imagine scenes and moments of 'Oh, my God, how fucking cool would it be if they did that?'" He continued, "But it's important for me to say on the record that this is not something I'm aware I am involved in."

He added, "But I know I'm not going to be able to say anything that will convince anyone that I don't know what’s happening," he said. "No matter what I say, I'm fucked. It's either going to be really disappointing for people or it's going to be really exciting." Later, when asked about the leaked video, Garfield claimed, "I heard about it. And I did see it. And it's a Photoshop."

Garfield played Spider-Man in the Amazing Spider-Man and its sequel between 2012 and 2014. A reboot had been in the works as far back as the late 2000s, before Sam Raimi's Spider-Man 4 had been officially cancelled. The reboot was announced by Sony, with director Marc Webb attached, days after Raimi departed his project. The films were set in a different universe and told a markedly different story.

There are a wide variety of theories concerning which universes and film franchises Spider-Man: No Way Home might introduce into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The official trailer confirmed that Alfred Molina will be donning the tentacles of Doc Ock from Sam Raimi's trilogy once again, and even suggested that Willem Dafoe's Green Goblin will be appearing on the big screen again.
