Aunt May is no ordinary woman. She's far from the frail lady vibe that she gives off and has had quite the journey. The thing is, May's parents never really got along. She grew up in a broken family as her father walked out on her and her mom. Her mother blamed her for her failed marriage and emotionally abused her. Right from calling her a burden to making her feel worthless.

Under such circumstances, May Parker's resilience strengthened and she grew up to be a strong woman. So it's no surprise that beneath that soft skin lies an indomitable woman. Don't think of Aunt May as a weakling because she's every bit the badass. Here are her top 10 badass moments, ranked.

10 A SUPERHERO HERSELF

This story comes from May Reilly (Earth-3123) where Aunt May was bitten by the radioactive spider instead of Peter Parker. In which case, she was Spider Ma'am. Peter had forgotten to take this lunch to school. Being the doting Aunt that May was, she rushed with Peter's lunch and got bitten in the process. Boy oh boy, what a kick-ass hero she was. Initially, she went out to earn money by doing stunts. But as the villain Leap Frog cropped up, May's vigilantism kicked in and she became a crime fighter.  Leap-Frog was totally crushed by Spider Ma'am!

9 SPIDEY BANG!

Did you know that Aunt May broke a vase over her nephew Spider-Man's head? It's fairly obvious, given Peter's secret identity and sharing a shack with May, awkward things would happen. While May was being held hostage by Doctor Octavius, Spidey scared her by sneaking in to rescue her.  Thinking he was some horrible creature, May hit him in the head. She didn't stop there but called out for Doctor Octavius to let him know she'd hit the monster called Spider-Man.

8 AVENGERS, MEET AUNT MAY

Oh, the hilarity of the time Avengers met Aunt May! This story dates back to the time when Peter joined the New Avengers. It so happened that Aunt May's house was destroyed in a fire incident. As a result, May and Mary Jane moved in with Peter so they could be near him.

What's hilarious about the whole story is how Aunt May dealt with other Avengers. She gave an earful to Wolverine for drinking early in the morning and even asked him to put a shirt on because, "there are some rules about proper attire even in this part of New York".

7 SAVED HERSELF AND SPIDEY FROM DOC OCK

In Spider-Man 2, Aunt May (Rosemary Harris) was taken hostage by Doctor Octopus (Alfred Molina). Not only did Ock threaten to kill her, but he actually threw the lady off the ledge a couple of times.

In one of the scenes Spidey slingshots himself towards Doc Ock, whilst May stands on the side of a building with an umbrella in her hand. As Ock is secretly looking to stab Peter, Aunt May says her iconic, "Shame on you" and breaks Ock's glasses with her umbrella. Not only does Ock's vision suffer, but he has the biggest fall. It gets better:

Spider-Man: We sure showed him!

May: What do you mean "we"?

6 SLAPPED VULTURE IN THE FACE

Remember the time when Aunt May hit the apologetic Vulture in the face? Classic.

May dated Nathan Lubensky and the two were very much in love with one another. Nathan moved in with May at her Forest Hills home. Things were going well for both of them and the two were briefly engaged. Then came the costumed villain Vulture aka Adrian Toomes who wanted to take Mary as a hostage. The doting boyfriend Nathan didn't let that happen. He protected May till the very and died consequently of a heart attack. This incident left the perpetrator Vulture guilt-stricken first and later he was slapped by May.

5 HITLER WANTS HIS LOOK BACK

None of us missed Jonah Jameson's Hitler 'stache. This particular incident makes one want to push for an Aunt May and Jonah Jameson exclusive show. Jonah Jameson is the bizarre rich, ultra-conservative newspaper owner. He's always been involved with the villains and ranted about Spidey in his paper.

In this particular incident from Ultimate Spider-Man, Jonah, Peter's cruel boss is destroyed by May. Unable to stand the harsh treatment Peter is getting from his boss, May calls his editor up. Not only does she call Jonah a piece of s*** but she shades his Hitler inspired look with a "Hitler wants his look back."

You can see Pete's jaw drop in the background.

4 AUNT MAY SHOT ELECTRO

Yep, you read that right. Even though this incident shocked the heck out of her later, May shot Electro from behind. Three times!

This incident takes place in the Ultimate Universe. May received a phone call from one of her neighbors who warned her that Spider-Man was going to be killed. Given that May had just said her goodbye to Peter, she immediately turned the car around to save her nephew. And save she did! As Electro was about to bludgeon Peter, May took out her revolver and bam!

3 IN YOUR FACE CHAMELEON

Not only did Aunt May poison Chameleon with arsenic cookies, but she also warped his mind. It so happened that Chameleon went after Spider-Man's loved ones by visiting Aunt May as a Peter Parker imposter. The badass May offered to bake Chameleon some cookies.

As Chameleon was chowing down, May reminded him to notice the funny almond flavor of the cookie. Within no time Chameleon passed out on the floor and Peter buzzed through the door.

2 LIVING UNDER THE SAME ROOF WITH YOU ALL THAT TIME

This story took place in Amazing Spider-Man #400 when Peter took a frail, almost dying Aunt May to the top of the Empire State Building. The scene almost serves as an emotional catharsis for May, for she put up with years of pretending to be ignorant.

She asked Peter how it felt swinging over the city and flying. A fumbled Peter didn't know how to respond to that question, which is where Aunt May interjected.

Aunt May always knew. In her own words, "I'd have been an idiot not to know". Not only did Aunt May confess to knowing Peter's truth for years, but she pushed away from the reality. The thought of her beloved son, risking his life out there for a greater cause was hard to ask of a mother.

Later that night, after having a heart to heart to Peter, Aunt May passed away.

1 SHE HIT CAPTAIN AMERICA

This will probably break your heart for it takes place at Peter's funeral. After the death of Spider-Man, Steven Rogers aka Captain America was guilt and grief-stricken for he had bad-mouthed Spider-Man in front of Tony Stark and Thor. When Rogers was asked by teammates whether Peter was an asset to the team, he recalled an encounter where Tony had accidentally caught him in his spider web. It was therefore decided that Peter Parker would be trained by Rogers. Instead of training Peter, Rogers insulted and humiliated him.

Meanwhile, Norman Osborn and his Six took the city by a storm leading into a battle between Ultimates and Avengers. As Punisher aimed at Captain America, Spidey pushed him out of the way and took a bullet for him.

When Rogers confessed all of this to Aunt May at the funeral, she slapped him in the face. It was a legit slap and she totally got away with it.
