Tombstone's daughter Beetle is a supervillain who has put together her own group of young female villains. When she set out to cash in the reward for Boomerang, she stepped into his apartment and found his roommate Randy Robertson standing in the kitchen. Considering their lengthy history together, both Robbie and Tombstone are enraged by the relationship. While Randy told his dad that they are not their parents, while Beetle told her father that his anger made Randy more attractive to her. The two struggle with their parents knowing the truth, especially considering their long, antagonistic history.

Gerry Conway and Alex Saviuk created Tombstone in 1988;s Web of Spider-Man #36 by Gerry Conway, Alex Saviuk, Keith Williams and Janet Jackon. His origin and history with Robbie Robertson played out in Spectacular Spider-Man #139 by Conway and Sal Buscema. Robbie was running for his life and left a message for Spider-Man that explained his history with Tombstone, which went all the way back to their days at Harlem High School. Tombstone was Lonnie Lincoln, a young man with albinism who was a criminal even as a teen. He bullied Robbie and convinced him not to publish an article for the school paper implicating him in his criminal acts.

That carried over to when they were adults. Robbie was investigating a criminal case, and he walked in on Tombstone murdering a man. He ran home scared and received a phone call from Tombstone and knew that he couldn't print the story or even go to the police, or else he would be putting his life on the line. This made him an accessory to the murder that eventually destroyed his life.

Robbie Robertson went to work for the Daily Bugle, trying to forget this part of his past. Twenty years later, the police arrested Tombstone and charged him with a dozen murders. However, he was never tried because witnesses disappeared or recanted their testimonies. Tombstone ended up exonerated for the murders, something that never would have happened if Robbie had stepped forward and testified against him. Robbie tried to bring down Tombstone, which he paid for when his high school rival showed up and broke his back.

Things only got worse for Robbie Robertson after this. When Spider-Man caught up with Tombstone, he beat the villain and used a tape that Robbie had made to help send him to jail again. However, this ruined Robertson's life in Spectacular Spider-Man #150, by Conway and Sal Buscema, when a judge sentenced Robbie to prison for not coming forward with the truth. While Robbie had no problem serving time, he never expected he would end up in a cell next to Tombstone. Robertson was eventually pardoned, but the rivalry between him and Tombstone never ended. Now, with their kids dating each other, the war between the two men is likely to reignite and reach new heights.
