Tom Holland would like to explore Peter Parker's villainous side in the wake of Spider-Man: No Way Home.

While promoting the upcoming film, the star revealed he wants to see Spider-Man cast in a substantially darker light. Speaking to Fandom, Holland admitted that he'd be interested in finding out what happens when Peter stops being his typical friendly-neighborhood Spider-Man. "I also would like to maybe see what happens if my Spider-Man becomes a villain," explained Holland, specifying, "I think there are some interesting things where you could make a film about an anti-hero, or things like that."

Previously, Peter's dark side was explored during actor Tobey Maguire's take on the web slinger in Spider-Man 3, which saw the Venom symbiote corrupt Spider-Man, making him indulge in some self-destructive habits. This ranged from a number of cruel feats, including the attempted murder of Sandman, the maiming of his best friend (Harry Osborn) and hurting his true love, Mary Jane, which led to him abandoning the black suit for good. With both Maguire and The Amazing Spider-Man's Andrew Garfield rumored to reprise their roles in No Way Home, fans may see callbacks to the darkness lived by both of them while interacting with Holland's wall crawler.

Holland has mentioned that No Way Home will be darker than past films, for a direction that fans have seen before. The actor claims that Spider-Man will adopt a violent fighting style to escape his new enemies in the film. "There are some fight scenes in this movie that are very violent," Holland explained,  adding, "And it's a fighting style different from what we've seen before. But really you will get to see Spider-Man using his fists in a 'fight or run' situation." These comments suggest that Holland's wall-crawler may already be embracing some more menacing tendencies for the upcoming film.

Though it is unclear how different Holland's Spider-Man will become and behave in No Way Home, signs point towards him heading for a world of trouble. The film will feature the return of multiple villains from Sony's Spider-Man and Amazing Spider-Man series. Willem Dafoe's Green Goblin, Alfred Molina's Doctor Octopus, Thomas Haden Church's Sandman, Rhys Ifans' Lizard and Jamie Foxx's Electro are all confirmed to appear.

Their inclusion has led many fans to speculate that No Way Home will also add Tom Hardy's Venom to re-create the villainous comic book ensemble, the Sinister Six. A post-credit scene for Venom: Let There Be Carnage featured Venom's entrance into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, showing Holland's Parker. Being that the Venom symbiote is a direct link for Parker breaking bad and acting more brutal in comics, the teased collision between the two could give Holland his desire for a villainous Spider-Man.

Spider-Man: No Way Home swings into theaters on Dec. 17.
