Spider-Man 3 star Tom Holland was so surprised about his casting as Spider-Man/Peter Parker in Captain America: Civil War that he broke his computer.

In a conversation for Variety with Black Panther star Daniel Kaluuya, Holland explained that he was searching for Marvel news on his laptop and saw an article that named him as the new Spider-Man. "I’ve still got the article saved on my computer. It said, 'We would like to introduce our new Spider-Man, Tom Holland.' I broke my computer, because I flipped it up in the air. It fell off my bed; my dog went nuts."

Holland found out the news of his casting early due to the Sony hack around the same time, but he received confirmation from Marvel Studios soon after. "And then the studio called me and gave me the news. It was so bizarre how it happened."

The actor went on to say that he thought Marvel Studios were planning on firing him after he'd already shot scenes for 2016's Captain America: Civil War. "I don’t know why. 'Civil War' hadn’t come out yet, and I just didn’t hear anything from anyone. I can’t really explain it. It was awful, but they didn’t — obviously." Despite Holland's worries, Spider-Man's appearance in Civil War delighted fans, and both critics and audiences offered high-praise of his performance in 2017's Spider-Man: Homecoming.

After Spider-Man: Homecoming, Holland appeared as the wall-crawler in both 2018's Avengers: Infinity War and 2019's Avengers: Endgame. Also released in 2019 was Marvel Studios' second Spider-Man solo film, Spider-Man: Far From Home, which saw the return of many characters from Homecoming, including Zendaya's MJ, Marisa Tomei's May Parker and Jacob Batalon's Ned Leeds. Spider-Man: Far From Home closed out Phase 3 of the MCU.

Holland's next performance as Peter Parker will take place in Marvel Studios' third solo Spider-Man film, which is currently untitled. Spider-Man 3 will be the 27th film set within the MCU and is being directed by Jon Watts, who also directed both Homecoming and Far From Home.

Not much is known about the plot of Spider-Man 3, though it will feature several actors reprising their roles from both Sam Raimi's Spider-Man film trilogy and Marc Webb's The Amazing Spider-Man films, including Alfred Molina (Doctor Octopus/Otto Octavius) and Jamie Foxx (Electro/Max Dillon). There are also plenty of rumors circling the film, including that Charlie Cox, who portrayed Daredevil/Matt Murdock on Netflix's Daredevil series, will reprise his role in Spider-Man 3.
