Much like Batman, the death of a relative is what helps to define Spider-Man. The origins of both heroes have been depicted countless times, across comics, films and television, making a retelling of their backstories unnecessary. Because of that, the Marvel Cinematic Universe introduced Tom Holland's Spider-Man months into his crime-fighting career, and glossed over his origin and the death of Uncle Ben Parker. While that upset fans who expected to see Ben in some fashion, a Reddit theory indicates the seminal figure in Peter Parker's life may have been introduced into the MCU before Spider-Man made his debut.

In Iron Man, Tony Stark holds a press after he returns home from his kidnapping ordeal. The event ends with Tony denouncing all military contracts of Stark Industries. Before the announcement, however, Tony sits down with the press and takes questions. Among the journalists he calls upon is a reporter named Ben. While most audience members may not think twice about that, Easter egg-hunting fanatics believe this is Ben Parker, -- and that he worked for The Daily Bugle.

This concept of retroactive continuity within Iron Man is not a first, as it was revealed that Peter Parker himself was in Iron Man 2 as a kid. While the first two Spider-Man films have given no mention to Ben Parker, aside from an initial on a briefcase in Spider-Man: Far From Home, there is hope that the third Spider-Man film will bring in more about Uncle Ben, especially if he is in fact this reporter.

As most comic fans are aware, Peter Parker's second job is as a photographer for The Daily Bugle. The MCU's Spider-Man didn't have to struggle for money, due to the financial and technological assistance of Tony Stark. But a Peter Parker fresh out of high school, and without the aid of a wealthy benefactor, might want to seek employment. That's where the reporter Ben angle comes in. Peter could decide to follow his beloved uncle's career path at The Daily Bugle, potentially having luck as a legacy employee.

However, there is one, small hole in this theory. In the after-credits scene of Spider-Man: Far From Home, Mysterio exposes Peter Parker's secret to The Daily Bugle. The comments thread of the Reddit theory notes a possible way around that by assuming that Peter would get legal help from Matt Murdock, who'd prove Peter and Spider-Man are different people and potentially negotiate a job at the Bugle for Peter to make amends for the defamation. This fulfills Peter's comic-accurate job description and gives audiences more of J.K. Simmons' return as J. Jonah Jameson, while also potentially bringing back Charlie Cox's Daredevil.
