WARNING: The following contains spoilers for The Amazing Spider-Man: The Sins of Norman Osborn #1, by Nick Spencer, Federico Vicentini, Edgar Delgado, and VC's Joe Caramagna, on sale now.

In The Amazing Spider-Man: The Sins of Osborn #1, the Spider heroes have been brought together because Spider-Man is about to do the unthinkable. he wants to save Norman Osborn. Ever the Boy Scout, Spidey won't let the villain that's turning his life upside down kill his nemesis, even if it'd make his life a lot easier.

Peter Parker's virtuous heart may be his downfall, but his fellow Spider heroes are willing to do whatever it takes to save him from himself, as a new group called the Order of the Web.

Julia Carpenter has gathered several web-swingers because Spider-Man's decision to save Osborn is jeopardizing his own life. The former Green Goblin is the Sin-Eater’s latest target. In recent issues of The Amazing Spider-Man, Sin-Eater has been "cleansing" several of Spidey's villains, and it was only a matter of time before he set his sights on Osborn. But Peter Parker doesn't trust that the masked villain's methods will leave Osborn unharmed, and he isn't willing to throw his bitter enemy to the wolves. As Madame Web, Carpenter isn't limited by this altruistic perspective; she sees Osborn as a deadly threat, so she's perfectly happy to let Sin-Eater take him off the board. She knows she can't stop Spidey by herself, so she assembles a Spider-centric task force to get the job done.

Spider-Man In Sins of Norman Osborn

The Order of the Web is a veritable dream team of Marvel's Spider heroes: Spider-Girl, Spider-Woman, Spider-Gwen and Spider-Man (Miles Morales.) Spider-Girl, also known as Anya Corazon, has plenty of experience on missions related to the Web; her ability to read the Spider Society's scrolls in Spider-Verse was invaluable. Likewise, Spider-Woman played an important role in that beloved event when she infiltrated the Inheritors' headquarters. Plus, given her resume, she's one of the most prestigious members of the sizable group of Spider heroes. Finally, Morales is a natural choice; he's been the main player in several Web-related events, and he's blossomed as a hero in his own right. He's also very close with Parker, so if anyone can get through to him, it's the Spider-Man from Brooklyn.

The members of this new team don't quite understand why they've been chosen for the mission, but Carpenter shares her reasoning with them. As totems of the Spider, they're all connected by the Web of Life and Destiny. Though they usually fight alone, critical threats, like Spider-Verse and Spider-Geddon, can bring them together. Spider-Man's decision to save Osborn is another event that has united the heroes. But beyond their connection through the Web, there's another reason Madame Web built the team this way.

Spider-Man and Norman Osborn In Sins of Norman Osborn

Each member of the group has recently experienced a similar vision. The details vary, but it always ends the same; the vision shows Parker's demise at the hands of Osborn. Spider-Gwen recaps her version, which looks quite similar to the way Gwen Stacy originally died in the comics. Her fellow heroes also discuss how this precognition varied for them; Morales names Queens as the location of Parker's demise. Carpenter says that, through these visions, the Web desperately reached out to the heroes to get their attention because Spider-Man's life is in danger. Madame Web says she couldn't directly interfere with Parker's decision to rescue Norman, but the Web is relying on the team to save its champion. The heroes are all on board, so Madame Web announces the official formation of The Order of the Web. This name is a fitting choice because, once again, these Spider heroes have been tasked with protecting the integrity of the Web; its very existence may be at stake.

The newest threat facing the Spider Heroes isn't Tte Inheritors or another villain that wants to destroy the Web of Life and Destiny. Instead, it's the kind heart that has made the Web's champion, Spider-Man, an iconic hero. But Spidey may be too principled for his own good. So The Order of The Web has come together to protect him from himself; now, the only question is whether he'll let them.
