The Into the Spider-Verse sequel is slated for a 2022 release, and in the sequel to the hit animated superhero flick, we're going to be seeing a whole lot more alternate Spider-Men drawn from the pages of the comics, just like in the first film.

The comics Spider-Verse is just as wacky, with a web of "Spider-Totems" that spreads across the multiverse. These totems were, throughout a few major events, hunted by the Inheritors as tasty snacks. With that in mind, here are ten things you may not have known about the expansive Spider-Man multiverse of the comics.

10 Green Goblin Murdered Spider-Man Noir's Uncle Ben

Spider-Man Noir is a fairly grizzly take on the quip-rich and strangely-cheery Spider-Man of Earth-616, with his powers coming from a Spider god, his villains, instead of donning cheesy costumes, being utterly grotesque monsters, topped off with him using a revolver when he's in a pinch.

However, what you may not have known is how Spider-Man Noir's origins differ from that of the one we're familiar with. He didn't gain his powers, use them in a selfish manner, and let go the would-be-killer of Uncle Ben, but rather, Norman Osborn, the Green Goblin, killed his uncle, putting him on a path of revenge.

9 Spider-Gwen Got Her Costume And Web-Shooters From The Wasp

Spider-Gwen

Peter Parker is a science whiz, an utter genius with a brain that makes him worthy of Horizon's think tank, and so it makes sense that he would invent his own nifty little gadgets to enhance his powers, such as his famous web-shooters that let him swing through the city.

So, how do Miles and Gwen get around? Well, in Spider-Men, Peter Parker of 616 falls into the Ultimate Universe thanks to none other than Mysterio and gives Morales his blessing, which leads to Aunt May giving Miles the deceased Peter of her world's old web-shooters. Gwen on the other hand? Well, she had the help of the Wasp, who designed her costume too.

8 One Of Spider-Ham's Main Baddies Is Ducktor Doom

Spider-Ham is a cult classic character, whose history is far longer than that of the comical Loony Toons wannabe that sported some great gags in Sony's animated film. As such, he has some equally wacky villains that parody familiar faces.

Naturally, you'd presume these would be more centered around the existing Spider-Man's rogue's gallery, but in actuality, he inherited a Fantastic Four baddie, Doctor Doom, who, in his universe, goes by Ducktor Doom. Any relation to Howard the Duck? Maybe. It's a small multiverse.

7 Donald Glover and Obama Are Responsible For The Creation Of Miles Morales

Donald Glover voiced Miles Morales in the Ultimate Spider-Man cartoon, and he played his uncle, Aaron Davis, in Homecoming, but what you may not have known is that he, and Obama, are partly responsible for Miles' creation.

Obama being elected inspired Marvel to push for a black Spider-Man, and Donald Glover took this in stride when he campaigned to be cast as Peter Parker in The Amazing Spider-Man. This didn't come to pass, but instead, Bendis created Miles Morales for Earth-1610, who took on the mantle of Spider-Man after Peter Parker's death.

6 In One Universe, Bruce Banner Became Spider-Man

Spider-Verse had a fair share of throwaway Spider-Totems killed by the Inheritors to show what was at stake, and there's plenty of interesting candidates that could have made this list, but Bruce Banner, better known for his alter ego as the Hulk, stands out.

In the comic, it's revealed that, in one universe, Bruce didn't become a radiation-fueled goliath powered by anger, but rather he took on the mantle of Spider-Man after feeling personally responsible for Peter Parker's accident and getting bitten by a spider in the process.

5 Spider-Gwen Formed A Band Known As The Mary Janes

Mary Jane gets angry at Gwen Stacy - Marvel Comics

There's a Mary Jane in nearly every universe, whether that's the PS4 game as a star reporter, screaming her head off as a damsel in distress in the Raimi movies, or marrying Peter before he makes a deal with the devil to re-arrange his life in Marvel's mainline continuity.

However, in Spider-Gwen's universe, rather than a Mary Jane character, Gwen's part of a band called the Mary Janes. It's a neat little nod to the character, whilst excluding her actual person from the universe.

4 There's A Universe Where Ben Parker Became Spider-Man

In the Spider-Verse comic, it was revealed that there was in fact a universe where Peter Parker died and his Uncle Ben became Spider-Man instead of him. How did he get his powers? He tagged along with Peter on his way to a science demonstration and got himself bitten.

His world is far bleaker than that of our main Spidey's. On Earth-616, Otto Octavius showed the planet a sped-up display of the effects of global warming before offering to sell them a solution to the problem, which he would ultimately use to destroy the planet (before being thwarted by Spider-Man and company). Well, in Ben's reality? Octopus plunged Earth into a thermonuclear war whilst Ben was in a bunker, hiding.

3 In Spider-Punk's World, Norman Osborn Was President

Spider-Punk is an interesting character who you most likely know thanks to Insomniac's game which had a costume of the same name and design. His world is as outlandish as his design and namesake.

As such, it's only fitting that, in a world where Spider-Man is a punk star, Norman Osborn, the Green Goblin himself, is the president. You thought the head of the Avengers was bad? Try having him running the entire country.

2 There's A Miles Morales Spider-Ham

Miles is a fairly new character, under a decade old. However, he has his very own Spider-Ham version, much like Peter Parker, but his version isn't called Porker, but rather Miles Morhames, a pun just as bad.

His uncle wasn't the Prowler, but rather the Fowler, and Morhames took the mantle of Spider-Man following the death of Spider-Ham, who died fighting the Green Gobbler. His universe was wiped out, but he survived and lept through the multiverse to warn others about their impending doom.

1 On Earth-15, Peter Parker Is A Serial Killer Who Bonded With The Carnage Symbiote

Cletus Kassady is a sick, perverse serial killer who managed to get his hands on Venom's offspring, the Carnage symbiote, forming a bond unlike any other. However, there exists a world in which Peter Parker became a twisted madman and himself bonded with said symbiote.

This Peter eventually died at the hands of Firestar when he was drafted into the Weapon X program where Hyperion led them into conquering other universes. What was also different about this Peter is that he didn't go by Spider-Man or Carnage, but rather the alias of The Spider.
