While Peter Parker is facing a myriad of crises as Spider-Man right now, his alleged sister, Teresa Parker, is on the hunt for the man who killed their parents, This brought her to a meeting with the Finisher, the assassin who killed the Parkers, but she was left with more questions and doubts than ever before, thanks to what he and the Chameleon told her.

As she learned in Giant-Size Amazing Spider-Man: The Chameleon Conspiracy, Teresa is considering the possibility that she isn't actually the daughter of Richard and Mary Parker. Instead, she may have been a child taken to a special Russian school to be trained in espionage and infiltration so thoroughly that she actually believes she's Theresa Parker. While she seems to reject this idea almost as quickly as its introduced, this possible explanation of where she came from gives her more in common with the Winter Soldier than the Chameleon.

As the Finisher explained it, Teresa may actually be one of many Russian children who showed a talent for subterfuge that he found and spirited away to a special academy to be trained as a spy. Ostensibly, the school would have taught Teresa everything about infiltration and impersonation, allowing her to become whoever she needed to be to complete her mission. The programming would have been so thorough that these Chameleons would be completely unaware of their true identities until such a time as it became necessary. This was mental conditioning of the highest caliber.

But the idea that she was taken in and brainwashed by a special Russian program bears similarities to what happened to Bucky Barnes. If this is what happened to Teresa, then like her, Bucky was also taken in by a Russian program and brainwashed to be one of their agents. After his fall into the water, Bucky was recovered by the Soviet Union who began training and reprogramming him to be their Winter Soldier -- an agent of their own political agendas.

But even though they were trained for different purposes, Teresa for infiltration and Bucky for assassination, they share much more than that in common. Their skillsets make them highly qualified to combat people with powers. They are at the pinnacle of their respective professions with Teresa being a master spy and Bucky a master fighter.

Teresa is still largely uncertain whether what the Finisher told her is true. She has no idea if she actually is Teresa Parker or if that was just a fabrication. But what she has decided on is that, even if her past is a lie, it's her future that matters now. She chooses to continue being Teresa Parker because it is meaningful to her. It allows her to do good in the world and gave her a family. She chose her life.

The same can be said for Bucky. After finally escaping the brainwashing, Winter Soldier has been his own man, carving out his future without orders or guidance from anyone else. That more than anything else is what ties these two deadly people together: They chose to leave a haunted past behind for a better tomorrow.
