After being removed from Sony's schedule, director Gina Prince-Bythewood opens up about the delayed Silver & Black and how it's vital to get the story right first and foremost.

For months, reports have suggested that the reason for the delay on Silver & Black was due to the film's script needing some work. This is something Prince-Bythewood has even admitted in the past. Confirming those reports in a new interview with Collider while making the press rounds for Cloak & Dagger, the director reaffirmed that the story wasn't where it needed to be ahead of production.

Despite Prince-Bythewood being hired over a year ago to helm the Spider-Man offshoot Silver & Black for Sony, little has become of the project. And according to Prince-Bythewood, that's simply because the script isn't right just yet. "With Silver and Black, when you’re doing a film of that magnitude, it’s gotta be right," she explained. "And if it’s not right, we actually collectively decided to go back to the drawing board and start over."

Going back to the drawing board, of course, means that it'll be quite some time before anything officially happens on Silver & Black. But that doesn't mean Prince-Bythewood will be ditching the film. As she explained to Collide, although she would "love to be filming right now," she's okay with waiting for things to properly fall into place. "So, we have to get the script right, and I’m okay to wait. I may be shooting something before that, but it really is just get the script right before we go on that journey."

Of course, Silver & Black won't be Prince-Bythewood's first foray into the Marvel Universe. She directed the pilot episode of Cloak & Dagger for Freeform, which is set to premiere next week. So, how do the two compare? Obviously there are some key differences -- the main one being the budgets -- but she's excited to have gotten to play in the Marvel television world prior to Silver & Black. "Marvel Television is doing such cool, innovative things. It’s really exciting to start there, and things that I learned on that, I will absolutely bring to the bigger sandbox."

The script for Silver & Black has undergone the hands of several writers including Prince-Bythewood, Chris Yost (Thor: Ragnarok), Lisa Joy (Westworld), Geneva Robertson-Dworet (Captain Marvel) and Lindsey Beer (Chaos Walking). With a firm story yet to be set, it remains to be seen if Sony will bring in more writers going forward.

As of right now, Silver & Black does not have a release date.
