With the launch of the PlayStation 5 approaching, Sony has finally given fans a look at what games they can expect from next-gen, including a follow-up to one of the PlayStation 4's greatest hits. Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales will add new updates and enhancements to the original, allowing players to control Miles himself as he swings around New York City. Ever since the 2018 release of Marvel's Spider-Man, fans have been dying for more web-slinging action from the game that mastered allowing players to feel like the wall-crawler with its smooth momentum and combat. Miles gained spider powers in the original game, so this will the the chance to see him in action.

Spider-Man for PS4 ends with Miles revealing his new powers to Peter Parker. Since that game's debut, Miles Morales has skyrocketed in popularity, starring in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse later that year. The film and the game's tease have excited fans, finally showing them that Peter Parker isn't the only Spider-Man who can kick butt. Now, with the announcement of Miles Morales, fans are excited to play as a new Spider-Man, but it may come at a cost.

In the footage, we only see Miles Morales saving people and swinging around, with Peter Parker not appearing onscreen at any point in the trailer. It opens with Miles struggling using his Venom Shock ability on some kind of device and Peter's voice in the background telling Miles "A hero is just someone who doesn't give up. Your dad said that. He was right. Now it's your turn. Go be a hero Miles." The moment is symbolic, as if he is passing on the torch to Miles. However, it could also indicate that Peter Parker won't make it to the end of the game.

Mile Morales reacts in shock in Spider-Man: Into The Spiderverse

Miles Morales comes from the Ultimate Marvel Universe, a world where Peter Parker was killed by the Green Goblin. We see this play out in Into the Spider-Verse, where Miles sees Peter dies right after learning about his own powers and must stand up and take on the role of his universe's Spider-Man. This is something the game could do as well. Like in the movie, the game's Peter Parker is an adult rather than a teenage boy, putting him in the position to pass on his title to the next generation.

We don't know much about Spider-Man: Miles Morales or its story, including whether players will be able to control Peter Parker at all. It could be that Peter is just injured or otherwise incapacitated (perhaps from an incident that occurs early in the game), keeping him from participating in the action we see in the trailer without being permanently gone.

However, it's possible that the new game won't end with both Spider-Men alive. Peter Parker, as he has in other universes, could once again die, leaving Miles with the line he says in the trailer. From there, we could see Miles grapple with the feeling of having to replace Peter's Spider-Man and live up to his legacy, eventually becoming the Ultimate Spider-Man that fans have seen him grow into in the comics and film.
