WARNING: The following article contains spoilers for Spider-Man: No Way Home, in theaters now.

Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers' official script for Sony and Marvel Studios' Spider-Man: No Way Home confirms Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield's respective versions of Peter Parker/Spider-Man have a lasting visual influence on the Marvel Cinematic Universe's version of the character, played by Tom Holland.

In No Way Home's final minutes, Holland's Peter -- who is now unknown to the world thanks to Doctor Strange's (Benedict Cumberbatch) magic -- eschews his high tech Spider-Man suit in favor of homemade, comics-accurate red and blue suit. Page 181 of the film's script makes it clear that Peter based this new suit on those worn by Maguire's Spider-Man and Garfield's Spider-Man, who he met earlier in the film thanks to multiversal shenanigans. "Spider-Man flips and rolls across a snowy roof in a BLUE AND RED SUIT (new for him, but reminiscent of suits he's seen before)," the screenplay reads.

Tobey Maguire first portrayed Peter Parker in 2002's Spider-Man, with the film giving the hero a red and blue costume that was rather accurate to the original suit designed by late Spider-Man co-creator Steve Ditko in the early 1960s. Maguire's Peter wore this suit again in 2004's Spider-Man 2 and 2007's Spider-Man 3 (though it does get a fresh coat thanks to the Venom symbiote in the latter) before donning it one more time in No Way Home.

Meanwhile, when Andrew Garfield took on the role of Spider-Man for 2012's The Amazing Spider-Man, he got a completely redesigned suit, which took cues from the original, though also took a few liberties. However, Garfield's Peter himself adapted a more comics-accurate, Ditko-esque suit in 2014's The Amazing Spider-Man 2. It's this version of the suit that he's seen wearing during his own reprisal in No Way Home.

Tom Holland's Peter Parker is certainly no stranger to red and blue suits. There's the low-budget homemade one he's briefly seen wearing in both 2016's Captain America: Civil War and 2017's Spider-Man: Homecoming, as well as the high-tech, Tony Stark-designed suit he wears for most of those films, as well as in 2019's Spider-Man: Far From Home. (The "Iron Spider" suit Holland's Peter wears in 2018's Avengers: Infinity War, 2019's Avengers: Endgame, Far From Home and No Way Home also bears a red and blue design). It was in Far From Home that the MCU's Peter redesigned his main suit with a red and black aesthetic.

However, while the first red and blue Spider-Man suit Tony Stark designed does clearly take its cues from Spidey's iconic original costume, the classic Ditko design has long eluded Holland's Peter -- until now, that is. And if No Way Home's official script is anything to go on, he has Maguire and Garfield's Peters to thank for the idea. They may have gone back to their own respective universes, but their impact on Holland's Peter remains.
