Spider-Man: No Way Home star, Zendaya, has made television history by winning a second Emmy Award for Lead Actress in a Drama Series for her performance in Euphoria.

As reported by Variety, the 26-year-old is now the youngest woman to win two Emmys in the same category for her lead role in HBO’s Euphoria. In Euphoria, Zendaya plays Rue Bennett, a 17-year-old recovering drug addict. Thanking the cast and crew in her acceptance speech, the Spider-Man: No Way Home star also thanked those who had reached out to her with their own experiences of addiction. "My greatest wish for Euphoria was that it could help heal people, and I just want to say thank you to everyone who shared their story with me," Zendaya said. "I want you to know that anyone who has loved a Rue or feels like you are a Rue, I’m so grateful for your stories and I carry them with me and carry them with her. Thank you so much."

Going into the 2022 Emmys, many fans were skeptical regarding Zendaya's chances of winning the Lead Actress Award. Among the actor's competitors were Jodie Comer (Killing Eve), Laura Linney (Ozark), Melanie Lynskey (Yellowjackets), Sandra Oh (Killing Eve) and Reese Witherspoon (The Morning Show).

HBO’s hit drama series, Euphoria, first aired in 2019 and its highly anticipated second season finally arrived in January 2022 after a nearly three-year wait. The premiere episode of season 2 raked in 14 million total viewers across HBO and HBO Max at the time. Following the success of both seasons, and having received much critical acclaim, the series was renewed for a third season in February 2022.

Beyond Euphoria, Zendaya also has a starring role in Spider-Man: No Way Home, one of the most successful Marvel Cinematic Universe films of all time. Playing MJ Watson, the love interest to Tom Holland's portrayal of Peter Parker, her rendition of the classic character has earned largely positive reviews from fans and critics alike. It's currently unknown when she'll next appear in the sprawling franchise.
