Actor Willem Dafoe did not confirm or deny that he would reprise his role as the Green Goblin for Spider-Man: No Way Home.

In an interview with The Wrap, Dafoe was asked whether or not his comment on any potential involvement in Spider-Man: No Way Home would simply be "no comment." His answer: "I'm afraid so."  He added, "I got lots of stuff happening now. And, you know, I always feel like when a film comes out, that's when it's time to talk about it."

Dafoe originally appeared as Norman Osborne/Green Goblin in 2002's Spider-Man, the first entry in Sam Raimi's beloved trilogy. Rumors that Dafoe would reprise his Spider-Man role began circulating in December 2020, with the actor reportedly spotted on the No Way Home set two months later.

It was also rumored that Dafoe would be the Sony Pictures/Marvel Studios film's main villain and that No Way Home would be building a live-action version of the Sinister Six, which consists of Green Goblin leading Doctor Octopus, Electro, The Sandman, The Rhino and The Lizard. Alfred Molina, who played Dr. Otto Octavius/Doctor Octopus in Raimi's Spider-Man trilogy has already been confirmed to return for No Way Home. Along with that, Jamie Foxx's Max Dillon/Electro from The Amazing Spider-Man will also reprise his role in the upcoming MCU film.

Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield have also been rumored to return as their respective Spider-Mans for the film, but neither of the actors' involvement has been confirmed by Sony, Marvel or the actors themselves.

Whether or not Dafoe will return as Green Goblin will be confirmed when Spider-Man: No Way Home arrives in theaters Dec. 17.
