Set after the events of 2019's Spider-Man: Far From Home, No Way Home sees Peter Parker (Tom Holland) asking Doctor Stephen Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) for help hiding his identity after it was exposed by Quentin Beck/Mysterio (Jake Gyllenhaal). The spell Doctor Strange uses goes wrong, resulting in various versions of characters who know Peter is Spider-Man to pour in from across the multiverse. Maguire and the villains from his tenure as Spider-Man are among those who appear.

Maguire debuted as Peter in 2002's Spider-Man, which was directed by Sam Raimi. The movie, which saw Spider-Man taking on Norman Osborn/Green Goblin (Willem Dafoe), proved a massive success, earning more than $825 million against a budget of around $140 million. The sequel, 2004's Spider-Man 2, proved almost as successful, earning $789 million against a budget of around $200 million. Both films were well-received critically and are generally considered two of the finest superhero movies ever.

Maguire's initial tenure as Peter came to an end following the release of 2007's Spider-Man 3. Overall, the movie was financially successful and brought in more than $894 million against a then-record-setting budget of between $258 and $350 million. However, the movie was not well-received critically and currently holds a 63 percent on Rotten Tomatoes, the lowest among the three Raimi-helmed movies. Plans for Spider-Man 4 were scrapped, and Sony opted to reboot the franchise with Andrew Garfield in the title role.

No Way Home, which is the third Marvel Cinematic Universe Spider-Man movie, proved a massive success for Sony and Marvel Studios at the box office and with critics. The two companies are said to be actively working on Spider-Man's post-No Way Home future, though details about their plans are scarce at this time.

Spider-Man: No Way Home is in theaters and on Digital now. The film arrives on 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray and DVD on April 12.
