In the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it's been a hot debate as to who's the most heroic Avenger. The likes of Captain America, Thor and Iron Man jump to the front of the queue, as they're quite selfless in how they go about protecting their world; however, it's not always earnest as they do have quite the ego. This argument can now be put to bed, though, as the official Spider-Man: No Way Home trailer reaffirms this mantle belongs to none other than Tom Holland's Peter Parker.

This trailer details more of the rip in the multiverse that the teaser showcased as Peter and Doctor Strange cast a spell to get people to forget Spidey's identity. The Sorcerer Supreme explains rifts are appearing, which is why Doctor Octopus/Otto Octavius is in this reality, with other "visitors" from previous movies, such as Electro, Lizard, Green Goblin and Sandman, joining the fun.

However, as Strange tries to put things right following the spell gone awry, he makes it clear to Peter that while he felt they needed to send these intruders back, the heroes actually have to fix space and time, such that the villains die once more. As Otto mentions how Peter has to fly out into the dark to fight ghosts, Strange's voiceover adds that "they all die fighting Spider-Man. It's their fate!"

However, Peter trying to grab one of Green Goblin's bombs suggests he's actually trying to save Norman Osborn from the death in the Sam Raimi-Verse. Strange then reinforces he's willing to sacrifice these folks, but Peter isn't, which leads to Spidey stealing a box with the Seal of Vishanti on it. It could be Peter's using the magical relic to try to fix timelines or hop to different universes to save his enemies, as he doesn't believe they should perish battling their respective wall-crawlers.

In that sense, Peter truly embodies what it means to be a paragon of virtue, believing in these enemies and risking it all to save them. This goes beyond the other members of Earth's Mightiest Heroes who would -- and understandably so -- let the opposition die to save their world. However, in Peter's case, he wants to upkeep the web head as a symbol -- one that has to remain incorruptible. As such, for him to tussle with Strange is a more emotive, sentimental civil war, as Peter's not fighting for liberty, laws or his own happiness.

He merely has faith in those that are trying to kill him and thinks they could be better if given the chance. More so, he doesn't believe they should be judge, jury and executioner, and if they have a chance to set things right, they should.

It's the kind of altruism and optimism the other Spider-Men had, but Holland's version, with all this power and potential, takes it to another level. That's because as much as they're dangerous, Peter thinks these enemies are still human and worth protecting.

Spider-Man: No Way Home swings into theaters Dec. 17.
