Spider-Man: No Way Home producers Kevin Feige and Amy Pascal explain why the film decided to bring back a number of previous villains from other Spider-Man films.

"We knew we were forcing ourselves to deal with his identity being revealed," Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige said about the Far From Home post-credits scene. "Now we see how his senior year is thrown into utter chaos." And that chaos will bring Peter to Doctor Strange in an attempt to undo the reveal of his identity. But as a result, it appears various worlds will collide.

"The Multiverse was a good way for us to explore the problem of him becoming known to everyone," producer Amy Pascal said. "Peter opens Pandora's box. And that's what the Multiverse is."

When Feige and Pascal originally brought Disney and Sony together to work on Spider-Man joining the MCU, they decided using villains that hadn't appeared on screen before was the way to go. "I remember having discussions with Amy Pascal years ago," Feige said. "'Do we want to revisit villains we've seen before?' No, let's do Vulture, and Mysterio, and characters we haven't brought to the screen before. But I remember thinking, 'How would you even do Doc Ock again?' because Alfred Molina is perfect casting. If you ever brought him back, it would have to be him somehow."

But with No Way Home wrapping up the Tom Holland trilogy, at least for now, it seems the team decided to go all out and bring back Doctor Octopus, Electro, Green Goblin, Sandman and Lizard.

"When I was first pitched the idea, I was like, 'Wow, that would be awesome if we could pull it off,'" Holland said. "'But there's just no way it's going to work. You're just not going to be able to get everyone to do what they need to do. It's just not going to happen.' But it did happen. And it's crazy."

For now, it appears Spidey will fight the Sinister Five instead of the Sinister Six. But there are plenty of other villains who could come back, including Mysterio or Vulture from Holland's previous films. But another contender is Tom Hardy's Venom, as Feige and Pascal worked together on the Let There Be Carnage end credits scene that brought Eddie Brock into the MCU.

"You know I'll never tell you that," Venom producer Pascal said. "But it was a lot of fun to do, and we love Tom Hardy..."

Spider-Man: No Way Home arrives in theaters on Dec. 17.
