With the return of J.K Simmons as J. Jonah Jameson come certain expectations, such as his signature flat-top haircut and mustache, the latter of which Simmons fought to keep for Spider-Man: No Way Home.

Speaking on the Happy, Sad, Confused podcast, Simmons explained that he was brought on last minute and was told by Sony executives that he would not have the haircut, mustache or cigar in his appearance at the end of Spider-Man: Far From Home. "I was like, 'Wait, wait, wait. What?'" He stated, going on to say, "It was a negotiation then at that point... Obviously, the most important thing is that he's still the same blowhard and he does have the same damn mustache, close to it, and cigar at least."

The differences in his appearance evidently has not changed Simmons' approach to the iconic character. Though Spider-Man: No Way Home will feature a "slightly different" Jameson, Simmons explained, "Certainly, from the creators of this iteration of the story, it's a very different character... To me, it's a slightly different character. It's the same blowhard... the same guy with less hair." He also went on to explain that Jameson will serve as comic relief in No Way Home, similar to his depiction in Sam Raimi's Spider-Man trilogy, which introduced Simmons' portrayal of the character.

Prior to his return as Jameson in 2019's Spider-Man: Far From Home, Simmons hadn't played Jameson since Spider-Man 3 in 2007. The Marvel Cinematic Universe depicts Jameson, not as the editor-in-chief of the Daily Bugle newspaper, but as the host of The Daily Bugle web show-- the controversial news site responsible for revealing Spider-Man's identity as Peter Parker, with the help of doctored footage from Mysterio.

Spider-Man: No Way Home will see Peter struggle with having his identity made public, so much so that he turns to Doctor Strange, Master of the Mystic Arts for help. The film's trailers and TV spots hint that Peter and Strange will fumble the spell, allowing supervillains from across the multiverse -- and various franchises -- to pour into the MCU, including Alfred Molina's Doc Ock from Spider-Man 2, Willem Dafoe's Green Goblin, a variant of Jamie Foxx's Electro, Spider-Man 3's Sandman and The Amazing Spider-Man's Lizard.

There is speculation that actors Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield will also return as Spider-Man from Raimi's Spider-Man trilogy and the Amazing Spider-Man films, respectively. While there have been a number of supposedly leaked images and even a video, their involvement has not yet been confirmed.

Spider-Man: No Way Home is scheduled to hit theaters on Dec. 17.
