Despite having debuted its third and final season on Netflix over three years prior, Marvel's Daredevil saw a significant viewership spike in the month of December 2021 -- and it looks like it has Marvel Studios' Spider-Man: No Way Home and Hawkeye to thank.

According to a new report from Variety, Netflix's 2015-2018 Daredevil series placed eighth on Nielsen's SVOD Top 10 list for original programs for the week of Dec. 20, 2021 to Dec. 26, 2021, garnering 195 million viewership minutes across its 39 episodes. The show follows the exploits of blind lawyer Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox), who lives a double life as the vigilante Daredevil, having taking it upon himself to protect the neighborhood of Hell's Kitchen. Daredevil's greatest adversary is the dangerous crime lord Wilson Fisk (Vincent D'Onofrio), better known as Kingpin.

The timing of Daredevil's viewership spike certainly make a lot of sense. After all, Dec. 17, 2021 saw the premiere of Sony and Marvel Studios' Marvel Cinematic Universe film Spider-Man: No Way Home. In No Way Home, Cox makes a cameo as Matt Murdock, who shows up in the film's opening act to offer legal counsel to Peter Parker (Tom Holland) in the aftermath of 2019's Spider-Man: Far From Home.

Meanwhile, Dec. 15 saw the release of "Ronin," the the fifth and penultimate episode of Marvel Studios' Disney+ original series Hawkeye. After weeks of build-up, the episode's closing scene officially confirmed that D'Onofrio's Kingpin had been the one pulling the strings from the start. D'Onofrio officially reprised his role as Wilson Fisk to serve as the primary antagonist of Hawkeye's sixth and final episode -- "So This Is Christmas?" -- which premiered on Dec. 22.

In addition to Daredevil's 195 million minutes on Netflix, Hawkeye racked up 938 million viewership minutes on Disney+ across its six episodes for the week of Dec. 20 to Dec. 26. Variety explains that this "collision of the Marvel multiverse" attracted a majority male audience, with men accounting for 63 percent of the viewership numbers. That said, it's still unclear if the majority of Daredevil's increased numbers come down to established fans getting nostalgic, new fans wanting to get the inside scoop on these characters or perhaps an even split.

However, the streaming scene was still dominated by the second season of Netflix's The Witcher during the week of Dec. 20. While The Witcher Season 2 accumulated a whopping 2.2 billion viewership minutes for the week of Dec. 13 to Dec. 19, it actually outdid itself for the week of Dec. 20, garnering 2.7 billion minutes.

While it remains to be seen what the future holds for Matt Murdock and company in the MCU, Marvel is rumored to have big plans for Cox's Man Without Fear moving forward, including appearances in further projects and a potential new solo project.
