The return of Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker/Spider-Man in Spider-Man: No Way Home wasn't a particularly well-kept secret. However, Garfield consistently denied his role in the movie in the months leading up to its release. Now, a fan has created compilations of every time Garfield said he wasn't in No Way Home.

Posted to Twitter by user @dcurachel, two videos show Garfield denying his role as Spider-Man in No Way Home during various interviews. Such denials are not uncommon when it comes to high-profile, surprise characters, especially in Marvel Cinematic Universe films.

After months of fan speculation and reports, Garfield did indeed appear in No Way Home. He was brought to the MCU by a spell gone wrong to re-hide the identity of Tom Holland's Spider-Man after Quentin Beck/Mysterio (Jake Gyllenhaal) exposed him at the end of 2019's Spider-Man: Far From Home. As a result of the spell failing, Holland's Peter had to take on a number of villains from across other franchises, including Curt Conners/Lizard (Rhys Ifans) and Max Dillon/Electro (Jamie Foxx), who served as the main antagonists in Garfield's films. Eventually, Garfield and Maguire teamed up with Holland to rehabilitate those foes.

Garfield made his debut as Peter Parker in 2012's The Amazing Spider-Man, which was directed by Marc Webb. He later reprised his role for 2014's Amazing Spider-Man 2. While both movies performed well at the box office, the Amazing Spider-Man films received mixed reviews from critics and audiences. This led to Sony partnering with Marvel Studios to bring Spider-Man to the MCU and effectively put an end to Garfield's franchise.

So far, No Way Home has proven a smash hit at the box office, earning more than $638 million worldwide. This has led to reports that Garfield's Spider-Man may return for more movies. Additionally, Sony is rumored to be looking at a solo film centered on Foxx's Electro.

Directed by Jon Watts from a script by Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers, No Way Home is in theaters now. At this time, it's not clear when Holland's Spider-Man will next appear, though Disney and Sony are currently working on plans for the hero's future.
