Directed by Jon Watts and originally released in December 2021, Spider-Man: No Way Home picked up immediately after the events of 2019's Spider-Man: Far From Home, with the MCU threequel following Holland's Peter Parker as he enlists the help of Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) to rehide his identity after it was revealed to the world by Mysterio. However, the spell Strange used went awry, resulting in characters from across the multiverse entering the MCU such as Alfred Molina's Doc Ock, Willem Dafoe's Green Goblin and Jamie Foxx's Electro.

No Way Home is notable for being the first time all three of Sony's live-action Spider-Man actors have shared the screen together, with Maguire and Garfield's respective webslingers appearing in the third act of the film. Maguire previously portrayed the Wall-Crawler in Sam Raimi's Spider-Man trilogy, which was released between 2002 and 2007. A fourth film was initially in development but was canceled in 2010 in favor of rebooting the franchise. Garfield starred as Peter Parker/Spider-Man in the 2012 reboot film, The Amazing Spider-Man, and returned for its 2014 sequel. Following the poor reception and box office performance of The Amazing Spider-Man 2, Sony closed a deal with Marvel Studios to bring Spidey into the MCU with Holland making his first appearance as the iconic character in 2016's Captain America: Civil War.

Is Spider-Man 4 in the Works?

Although not officially confirmed at this time, a fourth MCU Spider-Man film is in early development at Marvel Studios. Holland has reportedly closed a deal to return as the MCU's beloved Wall-Crawler for an undisclosed number of films. While plot details remain scarce for Spider-Man 4, the sequel will likely pick up after the events of 2021's Spider-Man: No Way Home, which ended with Doctor Strange erasing everyone's memories of Peter Parker to protect the multiverse. The film's final moments saw Peter resume his vigilantism, wearing a new comics-accurate suit. Spider-Man 4's story has also been described as "street-level," with the film rumored to be connected to "the aftermath of Daredevil: Born Again."
