WARNING: The following contains spoilers for Spider-Man: No Way Home, now playing in theaters.
In Spider-Man: No Way Home, it was clear from the start of the film that there would be a lot of fanboy moments. From the point fans spotted Sony's villains coming over into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, they were expecting Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield's Peter Parker to arrive as well, setting their minds for bombastic screams in cinemas. Of course, that came to pass, and their inclusions produced quite a few astounding scenes. However, as tight as the script was and as organized as Marvel Studios was in keeping things under wraps, it turns out the movie's biggest fanboy moment wasn't even planned.
Now, there were quite a few scenes to scream for, such as Norman Osborn's "I'm something of a scientist myself" line, the scene where the other Spider-Men arrived and the amazing grab when Garfield's Peter saved MJ from falling. However, the sequence that stood out most was when the Spider-Men came together after they couldn't mesh in battle. As they fought Green Goblin, Sandman, Electro and the Lizard, they were getting manhandled, which led to Tom Holland's Pete pulling the guys in for a pow-wow in the scaffolding of the Statue of Liberty.
Holland's Peter admitted they needed to use their Spider-Sense to work together, which the others heroes had never done because they didn't have an Avengers. And as they finally got on the same page, Garfield's Pete grabbed them and let them know he loved them. Both said thank you before the group sped off, whooping and hollering because they were as excited as ever to go into battle.
While speaking with Variety, Garfield admitted, "There's a line I improvized in the movie, looking at [Maguire and Holland] and I tell them I love them. That was just me loving them." Garfield's reaction is obviously heartwarming, as his improved line speaks to his past with the character and how he feels about his colleagues. And this moment also gave fans the chance to put to bed the rivalry and debates that have been had about which actor's portrayal is superior, allowing the different iterations a chance to be together and show what makes each of them great.
Whether or not the various Spider-Man movies weren't perfect is a moot point, as these actors delivered gold at every turn and truly embodied the various eras of Spider-Man. And as Garfield said, it was all about sharing the love. It's unclear if these Spider-Men will ever share the screen again, but if they don't, fans will always have that moment in the scaffolding.
