Spider-Man: No Way Home takes place immediately after the events of 2019's Spider-Man: Far From Home and follows Holland's Peter Parker as he enlists the help of Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) to rehide his identity, which was revealed to the world by Mysterio (Jake Gyllenhaal) at the end of Far From Home. However, the spell Strange used went awry, resulting in characters from across the multiverse entering the Marvel Cinematic Universe, including villains from previous Spider-Man film series such as Alfred Molina's Doc Ock, Willem Dafoe's Green Goblin and Jamie Foxx's Electro. Maguire and Garfield's Spider-Men also entered the MCU and helped Holland's version of the character defeat their classic on-screen foes before returning to their respective universes.

The Web-Slinger's MCU Future Looks Promising

Ahead of Spider-Man: No Way Home's first theatrical run, producer Amy Pascal revealed that Sony and Marvel Studios were already beginning to plan the next trilogy of Spider-Man films. "This is not the last movie that we are going to make with Marvel – [this is not] the last Spider-Man movie," the producer said in Nov. 2021. "We are getting ready to make the next Spider-Man movie with Tom Holland and Marvel, it just isn't part of… we're thinking of this as three films, and now we're going to go onto the next three." Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige confirmed the following month that they were actively developing future MCU stories starring Spider-Man. Sony also revealed that it hopes to bring back director Jon Watts and stars Tom Holland and Zendaya for Spider-Man 4.
