New marketing materials for Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures' long-awaited Spider-Man: No Way Home confirm Jamie Foxx's Electro will utilize Tony Stark's technology to power his suit.As many fans have pointed out, Electro is sporting one of Iron Man's Arc Reactors -- specifically what appears to be the version from Iron Man 2. This would fall in line with theories that Doctor Octopus' new tentacles are similarly powered by Stark tech.
Foxx played Max Dillon/Electro in 2014's The Amazing Spider-Man 2 opposite Andrew Garfield's Peter Parker. However, Foxx's portrayal -- inspired by the Ultimate Comics version of Electro -- was one of the many maligned aspects of the film.
In October 2020, much to the surprise of fans, it was announced that Foxx would return for the then-untitled Spider-Man 3. "Super excited to be part of the new Marvel Spider-Man new installment [sic]. Can't wait for y'all to check out the new one," Foxx shared shortly after while also confirming his new Electro wouldn't be blue. This comment was swiftly deleted, though, and Foxx, Sony and Marvel all remained silent about the reprisal for over a year.
Electro is just one of several past live-action Spider-Man villains set to return for No Way Home. In addition to the aforementioned Otto Octavius/Doc Ock (played by Alfred Molina), the film will see Willem Dafoe's Norman Osborn/Green Goblin, Thomas Hayden Church's Flint Marko/Sandman and Rhys Ifans' Curt Conners/Lizard from the Spider-Man and Amazing Spider-Man franchises team up to take on Tom Holland's web-slinger in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Of course, with so many villains, fans expect to see at least two more Spider-Men -- namely Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield. However, neither Marvel nor Sony will confirm or deny the countless reports that the two former Spideys are reprising their roles. They've also both been noticeably absent from any and all marketing materials thus far, save for what some think was a cleverly edited No Way Home trailer.
Spider-Man: No Way Home swings into theaters Dec. 17.
