A fan edit imagines how Spider-Man: No Way Home could have played out if Peacemaker entered the Marvel Cinematic Universe. While the film features many beloved moments for Spider-Man fans, one that received plenty of cheers and reactions in theaters was when Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire's respective Peter Parkers returned in the film. Now, a video shared by Peacemaker showrunner-director-writer James Gunn reinvents the scene, instead seeing John Cena's Christopher Smith enter the scene through a sling ring portal. The edit combines footage captured during a showing of No Way Home and the opening credits of the HBO Max series.RELATED: Every Secret Spider-Man Villain Cameo in No Way Home

Peacemaker and No Way Home have garnered plenty of praise for their respective studios and cinematic universes. The Spider-Man blockbuster now ranks among the highest-grossing films of all time, and Peacemaker set records for HBO Max when its finale became the best-performing episode for the streaming platform in February. While Cena's character has been redeemed in fans' eyes following his role in Gunn's The Suicide Squad, it is unclear if the character will return to the big screen like Spider-Man.

Nevertheless, Peacemaker's future is more certain than that of Spider-Man at the present moment. The series was given the greenlight for a second season in February, while a new Spider-Man film has yet to be officially announced. Though there have been reports of a new trilogy with star Tom Holland returning as the MCU's Peter Parker, the actor is unsure about his future as Spider-Man.

"I don't know," Holland said back in January. "I know I love this character, and I know that I am not ready to say goodbye." He continued on to say, "But if it's time for me to say goodbye, then I will do so proudly, knowing that I've achieved everything I wanted to do with this character."

Cena, on the other hand, has not come out to cast doubt on his return as Peacemaker. There is no word on when production on Season 2 will begin, but Gunn is currently working on Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 for the MCU. Peacemaker actor Chukwudi Iwuji will join the film in an undisclosed role, though he has teased that it will be "completely different" than how his character was in the series.

Spider-Man: No Way Home is now available for purchase digitally, with Blu-ray and physical copies of the film going on sale April 12. Meanwhile, Peacemaker's entire first season is available to stream on HBO Max.
