Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige discussed what it was like to work on Spider-Man: No Way Home and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness at the same time.

As part of Empire's cover story on the new Spider-Man film, Feige spoke about working on the co-production with Sony while also shepherding the next Doctor Strange movie. "It's absolutely surreal to be working on a Doctor Strange movie with Sam Raimi in one part of the office, and then working on a Spider-Man movie with Jon Watts and Alfred Molina as Doc Ock in another room," Feige said. "That has been a mind-blowing part of the last 10 years of my life."

"Everything we do at Marvel is based on a small group of people sitting around a table going, 'Wouldn’t it be cool if…?'" Feige continued. "The Multiverse was always a part of that because it’s such a big part of the story in the comics."

Raimi is, of course, no stranger to Marvel films, having directed the original Spider-Man trilogy. Now, he'll take over for Scott Derrickson on the second Doctor Strange movie, bringing his camp and horror sensibilities to the MCU. The two films will, however, share more in common than just that DNA. As Feige mentioned, Alfred Molina is back from Raimi's Spider-Man 2 as Doctor Octopus. And more Spider-Man villains may also appear, including Willem Dafoe's Green Goblin from the same trilogy.

That's not to mention Doctor Strange himself seeming to serve as the catalyst for No Way Home's plot, which seems all but guaranteed to introduce the multiverse to the big screen after its debut on Loki and further exploration in Doctor Strange 2. Given those details, it's easy to see just how embedded the next two Marvel films will be, especially with Feige nodding to the proper debut of the multiverse concept from the comics.

For now, Doctor Strange 2 is set for more reshoots, possibly blending in more multiversal elements and further connecting it to the Spider-Man plot. However deep the connections run, fans won't have to wait much longer, as Spider-Man: No Way Home arrives on Dec. 17, followed by Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness on May 6, 2022.
