Benedict Cumberbatch, who's reprising his role as Doctor Strange in Spider-Man: No Way Home, revealed he hasn't read the entire script for the upcoming Marvel film.

"You know it's a dead-end [to ask for spoilers], but I can tell you this: It's a riotous film," Cumberbatch told USA Today. "I don't want to give anything away -- and I haven't actually read the whole script! I did that on purpose because I just want the ride."

Judging by the film's trailers, Cumberbatch will have a significant amount of screen time in No Way Home, despite his apparent unknowingness about large chunks of the script. One of the major plot points involves the reemergence of various villains from throughout the different Spider-Man franchises, which occurs after Doctor Strange casts a spell that breaks open the multiverse. There are also persistent rumors that Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield will reprise their respective iterations of Peter Parker, though those rumors remain speculative.

No Way Home is also largely connected to 2022's Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. The Spidey threequel, which was initially intended to be released after the Doctor Strange sequel, required major plot changes as a result of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic delaying production on Multiverse of Madness. When it was decided that No Way Home would shoot first, the script underwent several story changes, presumably ones related to Doctor Strange and his role in the events of the film.

Cumberbatch is currently in the midst of reshoots on Multiverse of Madness, which are due to restrictions placed on the film by the pandemic. "We're working incredibly hard to make a schedule work to realize the full potential of the film -- bits that we want to do better but also bits that were just impossible to do on the day because of logistics, COVID, etc," he recently explained.

As for the future of the Spider-Man franchise, producer Amy Pascal recently confirmed that Sony and Marvel are preparing to make another trilogy of films starring Tom Holland as the web-slinger. When asked if No Way Home marked the conclusion of the series, as some have speculated, Pascal explained, "We're thinking of this as three films, and now we're going to go onto the next three."

Spider-Man: No Way Home swings into theaters on Dec. 17, while Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness hits theaters on May 6, 2022.
