Spider-Man: No Way Home concept artist Marek Okon has revealed a detailed look at the Sony/Marvel Studios film's updated Statue of Liberty, which pays tribute to Captain America.

On Twitter, Okon shared a high-res image of his design for the updated statue, which sees a gilded Lady Liberty holding Cap's iconic shield aloft. The artist went on to share additional images of the Marvel Cinematic Universe's Liberty Island. "If you guys don't mind today's [Spider-Man: No Way Home] concept art update will be slightly more technical," Okon wrote. "I spent most of my time in pre-production designing [the] refreshed Statue of Liberty and construction site around Liberty Island."

The artist continued, "The goal here was not to create flashy key art images but rather to construct interesting playground for our heroes to fight in. I did a lot of different cross sections and floor layouts in 3D that were later used to plan camera framing and action flow... I used Blender and Eevee for real time preview while showing those spaces to my wonderful production designer Darren Gilford. Those 3D spaces were later transferred to Unreal Engine and we used VR to look at them from human perspective. It was pretty amazing."

In No Way Home, the scaffolding surrounding the Statue of Liberty -- which is in the process of being updated to honor Captain America -- serves as the location of the final, climactic battle between the three Spider-Men (played by Tom Holland, Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire) and the alliance of multiversal villains made up of Sandman (Thomas Haden Church), Lizard (Rhys Ifans), Electro (Jamie Foxx) and Green Goblin (Willem Dafoe).

Around the time No Way Home hit theaters back in mid-December, Marvel Studios' Disney+ original series Hawkeye also referenced the changes being made to the iconic New York City landmark, with returning Black Widow character Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh) expressing her desire to see the "new and improved" Statue of Liberty. Yelena might have to wait a bit longer, though, as the Spider-themed antics that took place on Liberty Island in No Way Home most likely set construction back at least several months, if not longer.

Of course, both No Way Home and Hawkeye take place after the events of Disney+'s The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, in which Sam Wilson/Falcon finally took up the mantle of Captain America following the elderly Steve Rogers' (Chris Evans) retirement back in the 2019 film Avengers: Endgame. While the series deliberately leaves Steve's fate vague, Sam and Bucky Barnes/Winter Soldier (Sebastian Stan) do make reference to Steve being "gone," which would certainly explain why long-standing monuments are being modified in his honor.
