Spider-Man: No Way Home has hit a major milestone as its worldwide box office earnings cross the $1 billion mark-- the first film to do so in the pandemic era.

On top of that, the third instalment in the Marvel Cinematic Universe's Spider-Man trilogy reached the monumental point after just 12 days, becoming the third-fastest to gross a billion-- tied with Star Wars: The Force Awakens in that regard, which earned $1 billion worldwide after 12 days in theaters.

The recently released film from Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures has enjoyed undeniably box office success from its premiere. Spider-Man: No Way Home's opening weekend saw it earn $253 million in the United States and $587.2 million worldwide. Speaking on the results, Tom Rothman, Chairman and CEO of Sony Pictures' Motion Picture Group released a statement: "This weekend's historic Spider-Man: No Way Home results, from all over the world and in the face of many challenges, reaffirm the unmatched cultural impact that exclusive theatrical films can have when they are made and marketed with vision and resolve."

Just prior to reaching the $1 billion mark -- a position held by fewer than 50 films -- Spider-Man: No Way Home made headlines by making the top of the list of Sony's highest-grossing films, where Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle once sat.

The substantial success of the film has been a subject of uncertainty for Holland, who recently expressed potential concerns that he has peaked in his career with No Way Home. He stated, "If I'm honest, I don't think that anything will ever match this — this is kind of the peak... It's just a shame it happened when I'm 25."

On top of being an undeniable financial success, No Way Home has also been praised by both critics and audiences, citing the performances of the film's stars, including Holland, Zendaya, Alfred Molina, Willem Dafoe and more. They also highlighted the film's narrative and how it paves the way for a multitude of new stories involving the Wall-Crawler and other MCU heroes, including Doctor Strange.

No Way Home featured two post-credits scenes, one of which was the first official trailer for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, which sees the return of the Sorcerer Supreme, Scarlet Witch and more. The decision to attach the trailer to No Way Home was made due to the potential spoilers attached, as the recently released film brings the MCU's Doctor Strange in contact with the multiverse and hints at larger consequences only the Sorcerer Supreme is equipped to deal with.
