Marvel's newest Spider-Man variant, who will debut in Edge of Spider-Verse, is a web-slinging Tyrannosaurus Rex appropriately named Spider-Rex.

The web-slinging dino is featured in a new variant cover by Leinil Francis Yu for Marvel's Edge of Spider-Verse. Spider-Rex will make its official debut in the upcoming Edge of Spider-Verse #1 in a story by Karla Pacheco and Pere Perez.

Spider-Man's Newest Spider-Verse Variant Is a Web-Slinging T-Rex

Launching in August, Edge of Spider-Verse is a new five-issue series from Dan Slott, Mark Bagley and additional creators. Each issue contains three separate stories centered around Spider-Man variant characters, some of which fans have been introduced to before and some of which are brand new creations. Marvel previously teased that fan-favorite Spider-Man variants such as Araña, Spider-Man Noir, Spider-Gwen, and Spider-Man: India will all appear in Edge of Spider-Verse. Announced new characters include Felicia Hardy's new Night-Spider persona, a kilt-wearing Spider-Man and a Kraven the Hunter "Hunter-Spider" variant.

The synopsis for Edge of Spider-Verse #1 reads, "THE END OF THE SPIDER-VERSE IS COMING! edge (’ej) noun – 1. outermost limit of an object. – 2. the sharp side of a blade. The leading edge of the Spider-Verse brought you Spider-Gwen and Peni Parker. This final edge will introduce you to some of the most important characters in the future of the Spider-Verse…but it will also slice the final strand of the web. IN THIS ISSUE: SPIDER-MAN NOIR! ARAÑA’S NEW STATUS QUO! SPIDER-REX AND MORE!"

The five Edge of Spider-Verse issues will build an overarching narrative that will conclude with The End of the Spider-Verse, a new epic launching later this year from Marvel.

Spider-Man fans will also be introduced to more Spider-Man variants in the upcoming Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (Part One) film, which is scheduled for release on June 2. A sequel to 2018's Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, the film follows Miles Morales, Gwen Stacey and more as they travel across the multiverse and face off against The Spot. "The Spot, from the very beginning, he just seemed like endless potential -- both visually and the arc of the character," co-director Kemp Powers recently said about the film. "By the way, that's not a costume, that's his skin he's wearing. He's not a guy in a polka dot suit, that's actually his skin. And the arc of Doctor Ohnn/The Spot does really complement, without giving away the story, the journey of Miles [Morales] in this film really well."

Edge of Spider-Verse #1 comes from writers Slott, Alex Segura, Karla Pacheco and Dustin Weaver, with art by Martin Coccolo, Caio Majado, Perez and Weaver. The main cover art is done by Josemaria Casanovas. The issue releases Aug. 3 from Marvel
