Spider-Man: Far From Home Teases a Surprising Mysterio Revelation

Mysterio-us: 10 crazy facts only hardcore fans know about Spider-Man's new enemy

While the Marvel Cinematic Universe is still reeling from the events of Avengers: Endgame, Spider-Man: Far From Home will swing into theaters to close out one chapter of the MCU and open up another in a few short months.

Earlier today, Entertainment Weekly released a new image from the film that shows Jake Gyllenhaal's Mysterio shaking hands with Tom Holland's Spider-Man. While any Spider-Man fan knows that those two are usually enemies in the comic book Marvel Universe, they appear to be closer in the upcoming Spider-Man movie.

"If Tony Stark was sort of the mentor in the previous films, we thought it would be interesting to play Mysterio as almost like the cool uncle," said Watts.

As the picture circulated around online, several eagle-eyed fans noticed that Mysterio was wearing a ring, presumably a wedding ring, on his left hand.

While former special effects artist Quentin Beck has been menacing Spider-Man as Mysterio since he debuted in 1963's Amazing Spider-Man #13, by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko, he's never really had a major romantic partner in the comic book Marvel Universe.

However, Mysterio had a relatively prominent romance with Miranda Wilson in Spider-Man: The Animated Series. In that classic '90s cartoon, Wilson was an actor who was scarred in an accident on a movie set. Mysterio turned her into a cyborg to save her life and claimed that he could put her brain into Mary Jane's body. When that plan failed, Mysterio and Wilson both perished in each other's embrace and the machinery keeping her alive exploded.

While there's no telling whether Wilson, another character from Spider-Man's world or a completely fresh face will show up in Far From Home as Mysterio's better half, they could show up as Beck and Spider-Man seemingly team up to take on the Elementals, a group of monsters tearing their way through Europe.

Opening July 2, director Jon Watts’ Spider-Man: Far From Home stars Tom Holland, Samuel L. Jackson, Zendaya, Cobie Smulders, Jon Favreau, JB Smoove, Jacob Batalon and Martin Starr, with Marisa Tomei and Jake Gyllenhaal.
