While Spider-Man: Far From Home opens in theaters everywhere in less than a month, China gets the latest Marvel Cinematic Universe film next week, and has released a new poster ahead of its release.
The latest Chinese poster shows Spidey in his new outfit, standing back-to-back with a helmeted Mysterio, London seen burning in the background behind the two characters.
Ever since his inclusion in the upcoming sequel was first revealed, the exact nature of Mysterio's role has been a mystery. Interviews with the film's cast and advance clips from the movie depict the traditional Spider-Man antagonist in a heroic role, arriving from an alternate universe to fight Elementals while teaming up with Peter Parker.
Despite this, speculation that Mysterio's heroic turn is all part of a larger, more sinister deception persists. This theory is fueled not only by his traditional comic book role as a bad guy, but by leaked tie-in merchandising apparently labeling him as a villain.
Mysterio's true motivations and goals will be revealed when Far From Home opens in theaters in China next week.
Opening July 2, director Jon Watts’ Spider-Man: Far From Home stars Tom Holland, Samuel L. Jackson, Zendaya, Cobie Smulders, Jon Favreau, JB Smoove, Jacob Batalon and Martin Starr, with Marisa Tomei and Jake Gyllenhaal.
