Warning! The following contains spoilers for Spider-Man: Miles Morales, available now.

Insomniac Games' follow-up to Peter Parker's 2018 adventures, Spider-Man: Miles Morales ends on an explosive note, finding the altruistic Miles going up against his best friend Phin, aka the Tinkerer. Luckily, Phin redeems herself as leader of the Underground, a tech-terrorist squad, and saves Miles as he absorbs the energy from Roxxon's Nuform reactor. She flies off into the sky with him and dies as he detonates, protecting Harlem from its blast radius.

However, as Miles and Pete eventually reunite to continue fighting crime in New York, the mid-credits scene sets up a sinister sequel, and key threads from Miles' journey here could see the battle coming closer to home than expected.

The post-credits scene from Marvel's Spider-Man revealed that while Pete and Mary Jane thought Harry was off in Europe doing Oscorp work, he was actually suffering from Oshtoran Syndrome, a condition he inherited from his late mother. Harry didn't want his friends to know he was dying as he didn't want them to be miserable as well, but ultimately, the treatment he's enduring isn't the best idea. We saw Norman keeping him in a tank, touching the glass only for a black goo wrapped around Harry to reach out, indicating this was one of the franchise's many infamous symbiotes -- sentient and ready to be unleashed.

This mid-credits scene expands on that moment, but from Harry's perspective, as we see the symbiote snaked around Harry's body. This time, however, he's cognizant and seemingly healing well. As he wakes up, Harry looks around Norman's lab, and we witness aquariums that look like they're holding reptiles. Given his doctor is Curt Connors, it implies the Lizard could be due in a sequel. Curt does seem to have both limbs right now, so it'll be interesting to see how and if he eventually transforms into his villainous alter ego, but right now, he's just a timid doctor taking orders.

In fact, as Norman enters the room, he's told "vitals are good, circulatory system healthy, brain activity normal," but that Harry shouldn't be taken out as they might be "underestimating the potential danger." Norman doesn't care, though, as he genuinely loves Harry and demands he's extracted. This suggests that Harry could become an antagonist if his psyche and body don't heal as planned. With the symbiote present, Harry could become Venom, or it could escape and make its way to Eddie Brock later on.

As for the Osborns, in the previous game, M.J. snuck into Norman's penthouse and found smoke bombs, combat helmets and schematics suggesting Norman is creating Green Goblin suits. The 2018 post-credits also had green hues on Norman's face when he admired Harry's tank, foreshadowing he'll indeed become one of Spidey's most infamous villains. There's also a chance Harry could weaponize himself if something happens to dear ole' dad, similar to what Sam Raimi crafted in his Spider-Man 3 movie.

Spider-Man: Miles Morales. Miles Morales. Uncle Aaron. Prowler.

There's also Miles' mom, Rio, who has been elected as a councilwoman and knows how science firms like Roxxon and Oscorp have damaged the city. Roxxon's neck-deep in lawsuits, so we can see Rio and her social justice army going after Oscorp to prevent something like what happened in the previous game with the Mister Negative and the Devil's Breath. Rio knows that these mega-corporations hire thugs too like Electro, Vulture, Prowler (Miles' uncle, Aaron) and more. They're criminals in her eyes, exploiting the system and endangering innocents all in the name of science, tech and money.

Given that Harry was watching her on TV, it's easy to see Oscorp deciding that Miles' mom has to be taken off the table to set an example and free up room for business to proceed as usual. With M.J. also on the investigative beat and Peter ready to do battle, Miles will at least have allies in the fight to come. There's even a chance Aaron could join up and fully redeem himself after flipping on Roxxon for reduced time in prison. Either way, the Spidey family will have to face off against the big corporations soon enough as to these tyrants, New York is nothing more than a petri dish with humans being expendable variables.

Developed by Insomniac Games and PlayStation Studios, Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales is now available on both PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5.
