Spider-Man: Miles Morales by Insomniac Games releases next week and included in the Harlem location of the game will be a Black Lives Matter mural.

The mural is visibly prominent during a side mission where players help the residents in Harlem. It's a colorful painting on a tall building with depictions of Black people surrounding the empowering words. Upon completion of the mission, the residents refer to Miles as "their" Spider-Man and he's given the Uptown Pride suit as a reward. It's a black and gold suit that fits the theme of the movement and what the character represents to many people.

This addition to the game is a sign of the times. After the BLM movement increased in visibility following the death of George Floyd, worldwide protests surged in support of the fight for equality. Multiple game studios also came out in support of the movement, including Insomniac Games with a message of solidarity that continues in-game.

The web-slinging action-adventure game is a spin-off of the PS4's 2018 game Spider-Man. This time, however, Miles is the lead character, bringing his own sense of style and flair to the franchise. With that also comes his cultural identity; Miles is Afro-Latinx, his mother is Puerto Rican and his father is African American. He's become an icon in his own right as he represents both aspects of his cultural identities. He's starred in his own comic book series, Ultimate Comics: Spider-Man and the 2018 movie, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse which brought him even further into the mainstream.

Developed by Insomniac Games and PlayStation Studios, Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales will be available on both PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 on Nov. 12.
