WARNING: Spoilers follow for Miles Morales: Spider-Man #27 by Saladin Ahmed, Carmen Carnero, David Curiel & VC's Cory Petit, on sale now.

When one thinks of Miles Morales, "ruthless" is not the first word that comes to mind. However, as Spider-Man finds himself involved in a new clone saga with three duplicates of himself, the main clone who captured him revealed that Miles's "ruthlessness" surprised him.

In the latest issue of Miles Morales: Spider-Man, Miles found his clones' base of operations and saw vials and experiments all over the room. Believing that these were ways that the clones reproduced, Miles destroyed everything, not realizing that the serum in the vials was necessary to keeping his duplicates alive.

When the clones returned, they were horrified to find that Miles Morales had doomed them all to death. There are three Spider-Man clones in total, with Selim as the intelligent leader, Shift as a shape changer, and Mindspinner as a mute spider-like being who can read and disrupt minds. Selim explained how the Assessor inflicted the same torture on them as he did on Miles since they were first created as children. This is indicative of the clones' distrust of people, and their feelings are compounded by the rash actions of Miles, who they refer to as the "original."

Miles Morales recoiled in shock when he learned that he was responsible for the clones' imminent demise. While he offered them help, Selim doesn't trust Miles and believes his actions were intentional, commenting on his ruthlessness and warrior spirit. Selim refuses to accept that Miles' actions were spur-of-the-moment and without thought, and has now set his mind on repaying the web-slinger in kind by targeting his family.

While Miles hasn’t become more ruthless, he has become more reactionary, especially since the death of his uncle. When his parents revealed there was a Spider-Man running around threatening and kidnapping people, they knew it wasn’t Miles. However, they also pointed out a man claiming that Miles threatened him and destroyed his car. This happened in Miles Morales: Spider-Man #24 when he was out with Kamala Khan and saved some people in a building that collapsed. When the people told Spider-Man that the incident was because of faulty repairs by the building owner, he found the man and threatened him before destroying his car with a Venom Blast. Spider-Man reacted in anger and broke the law to prove a point.

Now, Spider-Man faces repercussions for his actions. When people assumed it was the real Spider-Man threatening and attacking people, they pointed to the man he threatened, who spoke to the media about his experience. This has caused even the general public to doubt Spider-Man's true intentions, a fact that has haunted him and erroneously painted his tendency to sometimes act without thinking as ruthlessness.
