WARNING: The following contains spoilers for Amazing Spider-Man #50.LR by Nick Spencer, Matthew Rosenberg, Federico Vicentini, Marcio Menyz, and VC's Joe Caramagna, on sale now.

Spider-Man has his hands full in the current "Last Remains" storyline, as he has to battle the demonic presence that has tormented him over the past two years, Kindred. Not only does Spider-Man have to battle Kindred, but he has to fight his closest friends, the Order of the Web, who are all possessed by Kindred and infected with the sins and powers of the villains that Sin-Eater cleansed over the past few months.

On top of that, Kindred is actually Peter Parker's friend and Norman Osborn's son, Harry Osborn, but now, the long-awaited return of Mary Jane could give Spider-Man the boost that he needs in Amazing Spider-Man #50.LR.

Mary Jane returns home

Norman Osborn has tormented himself over the fact Harry is possibly either Kindred or is controlling the demonic entity known as Kindred. Now cleansed of his sins, he is remorseful, and he wants to help his son. However, Norman knows that Harry won't listen to him. He knows that Harry wouldn't care or change his current course of action even if Norman died. However, Dr. Kafka mentioned there is a way Norman could get through to Harry — using an intermediary, someone Harry trusts who could get through to him.

With that in mind, Mary Jane Watson returns to Manhattan after the shooting of her movie now complete. In The Amazing Mary Jane #6 by Leah Williams, Carlos Gomez, Ze Carlos, Annapaola Martello, and VC's Joe Caramagna, she ended up in Montana in witness protection after watching a serial killer murder someone during a talk show appearance hyping her latest film. She stood up Peter Parker for a date while on the run from the killer and ended up disappearing, without him having any idea what happened. That title never continued due to the shutdown of production earlier in 2020, but now she is back and looks to play into the Kindred/Harry Osborn storyline.

While Mary Jane Watson and Peter Parker are one of Marvel's best love stories, albeit, with a lot of peaks and valleys along the way, there was also a time where MJ and Harry Osborn were in a relationship. From Amazing Spider-Man #95-100 by Stan Lee, John Romita and Sal Buscema, Harry, Peter, Gwen, and Mary Jane were all close friends, and the entire theme of their relationship was jealousy. This really hurt Peter and Harry's relationship since Harry was very jealous, and MJ had no problem teasing. The two finally stopped seeing each other after Norman and Gwen's deaths, and that is when MJ started moving more toward Peter.

Mary Jane and Harry Osborn

While Mary Jane and Harry broke their relationship off at the time and seemed splintered, the fact is they have known each other so long that they share something special. There is a connection there, and since she does not carry the baggage of Norman Osborn or Peter Parker, there is a chance she can be of use when it comes to getting through to Harry before he does something he would regret.

If Dr. Kafka and Norman approach MJ, she might be leery, but if it means saving Harry Osborn, there is no reason not to think she won't try. The question is whether or not they are too late.
