Marisa Tomei, who plays Aunt May Parker in Spider-Man: No Way Home, revealed that she wanted her character to date a woman.

In an interview with Geeks of Color, Tomei was asked about Aunt May's relationship with Happy Hogan (Jon Favreau) on screen. After praising Favreau's work, Tomei mentioned that Aunt May's relationship with Happy wasn't originally what she'd hoped for the character. "At one point, this was before even the idea of Happy showed up, there was a moment where I felt that May maybe should be with a woman," Tomei explained. "Because Ben is gone and who should she be with, and we were kind of talking about it. And so I actually really wanted Amy Pascal from Sony to be my girlfriend. I was like, 'No one even has to know Amy. I'll just be in a scene and you'll be over there and I'll just be like, Hey,' and it'll just be a subtle thing."

Tomei first played Aunt May in 2016's Captain America: Civil War. She later reprised her role for 2017's Spider-Man: Homecoming, 2019's Avengers: Endgame and 2019's Spider-Man: Far From Home. In the lattermost of those movies, May struck up a relationship with Happy Hogan, and while he thought the relationship was serious, she characterized it as more of a fling. Following her appearance in No Way Home, it's unclear when Tomei will next appear in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, if at all.

Created by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko, Aunt May first appeared in 1962's Amazing Fantasy #15. Married to Ben Parker up until his death, May serves as one of the most important people in Peter's life and a surrogate mother. Versions of the Aunt May have appeared in various movies, TV series and video games drawing from the Spider-Man mythos.
