While the Osborns are certainly Peter Parker's most personal enemies, Kraven the Hunter and the rest of Kravinoff Family gradually developed some personal grudges against Spider-Man, after one of the web-slinger's most critically acclaimed tales. During "Kraven's Last Hunt," by J.M. Dematteis and Mike Zeck, Sergei Kravinoff tranquilized Peter and buried him alive, robbing Spider-Man of his honeymoon with Mary Jane. From there, Kraven impersonated Spider-Man, in an attempt to inhabit the essence of the spider. When Spider-Man returned, Kraven recognized that he finally triumphed over the web-slinger, right before committing suicide. Sergei Kravinoff's hunt was finally over, but his death had several unforeseen, personal consequences.

Indeed, Kraven's family held a strong vendetta against Spider-Man. Sergei's son, Alyosha Kravinoff, became the new Kraven for a while. Vladmimir, Kraven's other son, became the Grim Hunter, before he was killed by Spider-Man's clone, Kaine. The Chameleon was also revealed as Kraven's half-brother, which explained their long-running relationship.

But starting with 2008's Amazing Spider-Man #565, by Marc Guggenheim and Phil Jimenez, that the Kravinoff Family truly became a force to be reckoned with. Ana Kravinoff, Kraven's daughter, went on a vengeful hunt for Spider-Man. Ana's attempt was unsuccessful, but afterwards, it was revealed that she was working for her mother, Sasha Kravinoff. From this point onwards, the Kravinoff Family planned a long-term revenge strategy that rivaled Norman Osborn's most elaborate plans.

"The Gauntlet" storyline saw Spider-Man's classic villains upgraded with new equipment and abilities, courtesy of the Kravinoff Family. The whole idea was to wear Spider-Man down, much like Bane's plan in "Knightfall." When the wall-crawler was broken down both physically and spiritually, the Kravinoffs would strike.

The Kravinoffs kidnapped Madame Web, so they could foresee any obstacles to their plans. Kraven's family also went after other spider-totems, including Mattie Franklin, the third Spider-Woman. As a ritual sacrifice, the Kravinoffs killed Mattie and resurrected Vladimir. Of course, since Mattie wasn't the center of the Web of Life and Destiny, like Peter, Vladimir came back as a humanoid lion, instead of his previous, human form.

After weeks of fighting supervillains, Peter was finally attacked by Kraven's family during "The Grim Hunt," by Joe Kelly and Michael Lark. Spider-Man teamed with Julia Carpenter, Anya Corazon and even Kaine to fight off the Kravinoffs.  When the Chameleon trapped Peter in the Central Park Zoo, he was captured and sacrificed to resurrect Kraven. Sergei returned, but something was wrong. Kraven was cursed, unable to die unless Spider-Man killed him. As it turned out, Kaine traded places with Peter, corrupting the ritual. Donning his black costume, an angry Spider-Man hunted down the Kravinoffs, defeating them one by one until he came face to face with Kraven himself.

Meanwhile, Julia and Anya freed themselves from the Kravinoff Family, but Madame Web was killed. Although he was tempted to kill Kraven for killing so many of his "family," Spider-Man was convinced by Julia, as the new Madame Web, to spare the Hunter. With this act, Peter told the Kravinoffs to leave New York.

Kraven, upset that Spider-Man wouldn't kill him, took his family to the Savage Land. Once there, he killed Sasha and Vladimir. Kraven then sent Ana and Alyosha to hunt each other, with the survivor becoming his heir. Evidently, Ana won, killing her brother. Kraven, however, wasn't satisfied with his daughter being his heir. Instead, he had the High Evolutionary create 87 clone sons, who he trained as hunters. Kraven then had a contest to see who was the worthiest son of all, pitting them all against each other in the Savage Land. Finally, one son killed all of the others. This last son of Kraven teamed with his father to trap all of New York's animal-themed heroes and villains inside Central Park, to be hunted.

Ultimately, Spider-Man defeated Kraven again, refusing to kill him. Kraven's son found what appeared to be Spider-Man, brutally beating and killing him. Yet when Kraven's son removed the mask, he found his father underneath this costume. With the original Kraven dead once more, his son renamed himself Sergei Kravinoff, aka Kraven the Hunter.

While Kraven the Hunter family might not have a deep connection to Peter Parker's personal life, they more than make up for it with their ruthless cunning and combat skill. Where most masterminds strive to keep their hands clean, the Kravinoffs' plans have always been a testament to their savage skills in hunting, tracking and taking down their prey.
