WARNING: The following contains spoilers for Sinister War #2 from Marvel Comics, now on sale.

As one of Marvel's most notable heroes, Spider-Man has wracked up a large number of villains over the years, with many of them taking prominent roles in the currently-running Sinister War. But one minor villain just earned perhaps the most vicious blow against the hero yet.

Spider-Man has barely been staying ahead of all of his enemies in Sinister War #2 by Nick Spencer, Ed Brisson, Mark Bagley, Diogenes Neves, Carlos Gomez and Ze Carlos -- and Anastasia Kravinoff seems to have taken advantage of that chaos to deliver a possibly fatal blow to the web-slinger.

Spider-Man Sinister War 2 2 Ana Kraven

Since making his debut in Amazing Spider-Man #1 by Nick Spencer and Ryan Ottley, Kindred has been moving behind the scenes and causing chaos for Peter Parker and his loved ones. Now, his increasingly dangerous endgame seems to be heating up, with Kindred turning many of the wall-crawler's oldest enemies into his agents of chaos. Capturing a number of the villains and infecting them with extensions of himself, he promises to reward the villains who bring him Spider-Man -- dead or alive -- while the others all suffer for their failure. This has resulted in a massive collection of villains attacking Spider-Man, who can typically hold his own against multiple foes but risks being overwhelmed by the sheer number of enemies who've attacked him.

Amidst the chaos caused by all the villains, Spider-Man finds himself trying to avoid the Syndicate -- Beetle, Scorpia, Lady Octopus, White Rabbit, Trapster, and the second Electro. The team rushes Spider-Man as Overdrives tries to escape the battle-riddled cemetery with Spider-Man in tow. The web-head does his best to evade the villains, barely avoiding the attacks fired by the six different female villains, unaware that his Spider-Sense is trying to warn him about their new seventh member lying in wait within the shadows of a nearby tombstone: Anastasia Kravinoff, who is able to sneak up on the hero and stab him in the back with her knife.

Spider-Man Sinister War 2 2 Ana Kraven 3

Introduced in Amazing Spider-Man #565, Ana is the daughter of Spider-Man's longtime foe Kraven the Hunter and his wife Sasha. Gifted with the same physical advantages as her father (as well as a latent connection to the Inhumans), Ana was one of the chief figures during the overarching "Grim Hunt" storyline that saw her father resurrected. Ana proved herself to be perhaps the most ruthless of Kraven's family members, and initially embraced her legacy. But during the "Hunted" storyline and upon learning of her father's intentions for his cloned "sons," Ana departed, turning her back on her family name. She hasn't been seen since but is revealed during Sinister War #2 to have been recently approached by the Syndicate about a spot on their team.

Despite Beetle's concerns that they don't need another set of hands, Scorpia argues that they need someone to give the team a bit of an edge -- especially after their recent reluctant team up with Spider-Man. Ana has already proven herself too, landing a serious blow to Spider-Man while the rest of the villains fight among themselves for the right to kill the Wall-Crawler. It's possible that this blow even technically does kill Spider-Man -- which would allow Kindred to revive Peter as part of his brutal torture, similar to what he did to the web-slinger when he captured him previously. Now, thanks to their newest member, the Syndicate have gotten one brutal step closer to winning the contest and slaying one of Marvel's greatest heroes.
