WARNING: Spoilers follow for Amazing Spider-Man #56 by Nick Spencer, Mark Bagley, Andrew Hennessy, John Dell, Rachelle Rosenberg, Edgar Delgado & VC's Joe Caramagna, on sale now.

The "Last Remains" storyline in Amazing Spider-Man came to an end with a massive cliffhanger, and the post-mortem started in issue #56, where Kingpin and Green Goblin's grand plan for Kindred and Spider-Man was brought to light.

It turns out that the two long-time Spider-Man villains were not alone, and Kingpin had an ace in his pocket the entire time. Osborn mentioned something called Project "Blank," which had been a promising endeavor for Wilson Fisk since he became mayor. This led Kingpin to gain access to a B-level supervillain known as The Spot.

The Spot in Spider-Man

Fisk mentioned that The Spot never amounted to much of anything in his career as a small-time criminal. However, it was his powers that interested the Kingpin more than anything. Once he captured The Spot, Fisk was able to extract the connection to his powers. He compared it to when Hydra took control of the United States and imprisoned Manhattan in Darkforce. Fisk bragged about keeping the vulnerable safe and managing the supplies, which is how he became mayor once the crisis had passed. Despite this, he said he never forgot the power that kept them prisoner.

That led him to begin his study of The Spot. He mentioned that The Spot could use his powers for incarceration in much the same way. While his powers are not the same as Darkforce, The Spot uses his powers to transport things and people through the Spotted Dimension. The spots can be suspended, and he can place them on other people. In the case of Kindred, Wilson Fisk brought The Spot out and had him connected to a machine. While the villain begged Fisk not to make him do this, he had no choice, and with the push of a button, his power was blasted through the machine, and Kindred ended up encased in an inescapable prison.

The Spot first appeared in Peter Parker, The Spectacular Spider-Man #98 by Al Milgrom, Herb Trimpe, Jim Mooney, George Roussos & Diana Albers. Jonathan Ohnn was a scientist at this time, working for Wilson Fisk. His job was to find a way to create a new supervillain to work for The Kingpin, and Ohnn had found a way to replicate the powers of the hero Cloak. He tried to tap into the dimension that Cloak travels through, and as soon as he did, he passed out. When he woke up, he realized he was in a dimension that was completely white with black portals he could pass through. He thought this was where Cloak went and chose to use his new powers to impress Fisk.

Ohnn adopted the name The Spot, and ended up as nothing more than a B-level Spider-Man villain who the Wall-Crawler couldn't stop laughing at the first time they fought. He also had a short stint with a team of D-list villains, including Kangaroo, Grizzly, and Gibbon, who called themselves the Spider-Man Revenge Squad. Despite years of ineptitude and even a couple of deaths, The Spot is finally giving Wilson Fisk what he hoped for when he hired him as a scientist years earlier, a powered-up operative that could be exploited by the criminal mastermind and made to do his bidding.
