WARNING:  The following contains spoilers for Amazing Spider-Man #61 by Nick Spencer, Patrick Gleason, Edgar Delgado & VC's Joe Caramagna, on sale now.

Wilson Fisk cares about almost nothing in the world outside of his own power and control over those around him. However, there is one thing that brings out the humanity in the Kingpin, which is the memories of his dead wife, Vanessa.

Recently, Fisk has been searching for a way to bring Vanessa back from the dead. He begged Kindred for the chance to bring her back, and the demonic being refused him. He has since been looking for the Lifeline Tablet, which he believes he can use to accomplish his goal. The problem is that Boomerang has the tablet, and Spider-Man has become the former villain's protector. However, Spider-Man might no be able to protect Boomerang's pet monster, Gog, who Kingpin starts targeting in Amazing Spider-Man #61.

Spider-Man and Gog

However, Kingpin has a plan, and Boomerang can only blame himself. Peter Parker and Boomerang's alter ego, Fred Myers, are having trouble making rent because both men are unemployed. In an effort to find a way out of their financial dilemma, Fred has started posting pictures of his pet monster, Gog, on Instagram in hopes of becoming a social media influencer.

Gog is an alien that was tasked with protecting the final piece of the Lifeline Tablet. Spider-Man and Boomerang befriended the alien monster while attempting to locate all the pieces of the tablet. Fred now considers Gog his pet, and talked Peter into helping him with his social media plan. Unfortunately, Fred's idea hasn't made them any money yet. Even worse, Gog has now been exposed via the internet as something that Boomerang loves...and a potential weakness.

Bullseye targets Gog

Kingpin held a big meeting with several of the city's most dangerous villains and offered them a "Get Out of Jail Free Card" for the capture of Boomerang, granting them immunity from police interference in any of their operations. When they mention that Spider-Man is always there to protect Boomerang, Fisk said he has that covered and then says he found Boomerang's weakness.

The distraction for Spider-Man was a bank robbery with Shocker, Speed Demon, and Hydro-Man. However, what was more disturbing was exploiting Boomerang's weakness. Kingpin sent out the assassin Bullseye to target Gog, and by the end of the issue, the villain has the cute monster in his sights, awaiting the order to take the shot. The fact that Wilson Fisk is willing to target an innocent creature in order to achieve his goal is a disturbing reminded of his ruthlessness as well as his desperation to be reunited with the one person he loved.
