Spider-Man has served as the star of many iconic storylines since his creation. However, one of the most revered is the "Kraven's Last Hunt" storyline, which saw Kraven the Hunter shoot the web-slinger and bury him alive before assuming his identity.

Writer J.M. DeMatteis recently reflected on the storyline's 30-year-plus impact on Twitter this morning. "Believe me: When we were creating that tale, none of us had the faintest idea that anyone would remember it—let alone consider it a classic—three decades later," DeMatteis wrote. He also added that he was "profoundly grateful" for the long life the story had over the years.

DeMatteis also had a reply to a fan who lamented Kraven's resurrection. "It's comics-everyone comes back eventually!" he joked. At the end of "Kraven's Last Hunt," Kraven took his own life, believing he had proven himself superior to Spider-Man. However, during the "Grim Hunt" storyline, his wife, Sasha, committed a dark ritual to resurrect him—with the caveat that Spidey would be the one to end his life. Kraven eventually tricked his son into killing him during the "Hunted" arc of Nick Spencer's current run on Amazing Spider-Man.

DeMatteis has written several comic runs, most notably Spider-Man. He also provides written scripts for animated films and television shows, including Justice League Unlimited and the direct-to-DVD Justice League Dark movie.
